I bought my Defender 90 TD5 XS Hardtop new in 2002 and ran it as a company van (for the low BIK) for about 4 years and 90K miles before swapping it in for a new FL2 when they came out. Didn`t like the BIK Tax the FL2 cost me and went back to 110 XS Utilities ever since. However I kept the 90 and fitted RAI, rear windows (it didn`t have to even pretend to be a van when I wasn`t using it for work). I had already fitted a GKN overdrive (It made all the difference for the miles I dis for work) and a Warn winch behind the bumper. The factory spec for this model includes cloth heated seats, heated screen, ABS and traction control. It was waxoiled when new.
In the past 10 years or so it has not seen much use, with 102,000 on the clock now and was little used for periods when we moved house and other priorities took over, but I always said that I would do a restoration and get it back to pristine condition. Has good BFG AT`s -265/75s on standard alloys. It has gone a bit scabby on the paintwork in places and the corners of the rear cappings have rusted and there is rust on the crossmember and front bumper (it is 14 years old!). AND the gearbox has recently started to grumble SO; I realise that I am not going to get around to the work it needs and hope that someone would like a solid but scruffy TD5 to spend some time and money on to get a great truck at the end of it. I have been brutally honest in the above description and can send photos top and bottom to anyone interested but, as always, you really need to see what you are buying. It was MOT`d in March with no issues. Because of the work needed, but bearing in mind the specification of the 90, I am asking for £6500. No offers - I`ll keep it and do the work sometime if I can`t get that! The vehicle is in East Lancashire (end of the M65), or could be in Preston in working hours if I take it into work. Thanks for reading this (what feels like its) life history. Nicam. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly! Last edited by nicam on 16th Apr 2016 9:58pm. Edited 2 times in total |
