I've had an oztent king something or other chair for years and can highly recommend it for comfort, even if I can't remember the name of it, but at the same time I got it for free with a subscription to LRO mag and I'm not sure it would be my first choice given the price.
There's plenty of choice on the market, it all depends how much you fancy spending I suppose 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Been selling this stuff for a few years. Currently stock Kampa - Can't really compare comfort, but would say that we hardly get any returned for quality issues. Have sold over 200 of their Tub Chairs in the last 2 years and as far as I'm aware have had 1 returned. Rich

Massive recommendation for Lafuma Cham Elips padded. I bought mine from Garden XL, an online garden centre, for £63.
Not cheap but hugely comfy - I am 6ft 3 and about 14 1/2 stone and I love mine. We even use it in the house as an armchair for visitors. The only downside is the large collapsed size - it folds in half like a traditional chair. Not tried the Kampa ones but most of their stuff we've tried has been good and I'd certainly look at them if I was in the market for a new chair.
We bought two Oztent ones late 2013, very comfortable and reasonably robust. We have had a couple of issues with them though which would put me off buying another - they use self tapping screws to hold one of the legs in the feet, these caused us some issues as they keep unscrewing themselves in transit. Fortunately we always managed to find the screws and got into the habit of tightening them up every couple of days when touring. We fixed this for good when we got home, replacing the screws with pop rivets. The plastic joiners used in their construction can fail/snap and getting replacements is... difficult. I've yet to fix ours but hope to print a stronger, ABS, replacement on my 3d printer to resurrect the chair. I also need to chase up Oztent to see if I can get a response from them regarding spare parts. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Another +1 for the Oztent King Kakoda chair, but they do take up a lot of space. Russell

We have been using kampa bistro chairs for the past couple of years. Good value for money and nothing failed on them yet.

Space is important when I pack and I like simplicity so went for two front runner collapsible chassis shoot ten years ago. Just bought another two party year as family grew. Similar issue with stiff tappers, but Loctite solved. Will see if I can find a link. Cheers

Camping furniture is what is considered to be 'occasional use' furniture whereas your normal type of sofa would be considered everry day use furniture.
Now it was explained to me that 'reasonable' use of occasional use camping furniture was say one annual trip of say 2-3 weeks and say 5-10 weekends per year and should last 3-5 years. Now if anyone is of a legalistic type mind and want to dig through consumer case law they are welcomed to. That is how the situation was explained to me and is my understanding of it. Now Oztent furniture is rated at 150 kg which is the highest I have seen. Most other camping furniture I have seen either does not have a weight rating or is rated at 120 kg.. Now a couple of tips for selecting a chair/ looking after it. If you are the type of person who presses down on the chair arm to stand up you are better off with solid arms rather then soft arms.. Camping chairs should be set up on level ground so all 4 feet are evenly supported. Do not rock back onto the back two legs as the chair joints will not take the extra loading. We have sold hundreds of the Oztent chairs and have had very few problems. I am aware of two Oztent chairs which we have supplied that have failed on joints, one is DaveW and one other. Yes it is frustrating that we can not readily get hold of spare joints Brendan |

I've recently bought a Quest Elite Comfort Plus chair. Looks like the Oztent though isn't built quite so solidly and is half the price.
I went in to the shop budgeting to go out with the Oztent King Kokoda but found the Quest more comfortable. They were both miles ahead of everything else in the shop but the Quest did it for me. If someone gave me the Oztent I'd be delighted but having sat on both of them side by side I wasn't going to spend more money on something that didn't suit my bum and thighs so well. Having now used a chair with hard arms I wouldn't want to go back to one with soft arm. The hard arm ones actually feel like a chair where the soft arm ones are a weird baggy thing you perch on. Edit: and I've just found a hard arm one I didn't see at the shop which is a Vango Kraken, and that's got a weight rating of 180kg compared to the Oztent's 150kg and the Quest's 120kg. |

I love camping, and camp a lot. I always look for a chair with a high enough back to support my head. It's very relaxing to be able to lean your head back when looking at the fire. Bliss!! 2006 TD5110 station wagon

Thanks for all the replies. I did prefer the hard arms of the oztent but the lateral seat support dug into my thighs, and it didn't have a high back. The other with the soft arms had the high back and was more comfortable on the legs. If only they manufactured a combo of the two!
To be honest, I will probably settle on the high backed oztent as they are the only ones I can realistically try before I buy (cheers Brendan). The others are not stocked in camping shops local enough to myself to warrant a drive out I don't think. Does anyone know of a camping supplier with a retail outlet for the chairs mentioned in this thread? 2002 110 td5 |
