May sound mad but have you blown a fuse?
Had a similar problem and only found out from replacing a fuse on the brake light circuit |

I had the same problem and as dulwich man says, a blown fuse for the brake lights was the issue! Apparently it controls something else related to the revs on gear change - don't know how true this is. Worth a shot for the cost of a fuse though!!

Hi Guys ,
problem solved:) you were all right , it was the fuse. Never had such a stupid situation. Its funny how a light fuse could influence the engine performance. I've spent all the week tiring to solve that problem. Thank you !!! |

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have had a slightly different twist on this problem. Mine has a tendency to rev when changing up and it was Bobs comment about blown bulbs lead me to a thought. I have RDX LED lights fitted, so are high ohms and could I supposed look like blown bulbs, checked with a meter and they are 6K. I changed them back to standard filaments and hay presto no problem.
Am now working on adding a suitable resistor say 22 ohm to make them look more like bulbs. Will update here when done if it helps solve the problem. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW Volvo S60 T8 Triumph 1200 Rally Explorer G0UBX |

on tdci there are two switches on the brake pedal ,im sure one is just for brake lights the other is for ecu so cant really see how bulb blowing or led light can make a difference, not 100% but never heard any problem caused by that sort of thing

I picked up the way solve the problem form another thread on this forum. it would seem that others have soled the problem . from memory others stated that with the brake light fuse blown the unit on the accelerator peddle thinks that you are in low range hence the change accelerator fueling.

I too have the full RDX led light set. But I have no problems with engine revs changing on gear change, either up or down the gears. LANDYWATCH

Engine not running quite right......?
How come people don't realise the brake lights aren't working and hence fixed before the engine which as we know would fix the engine anyhow? |

Aha fair enough but I'm sure some have mentioned the fuse replacement fixed engine problem......presumably they were driving round without brake lights but it wasn't till the engine issues they looked to replace the fuse and as a by product they sorted lights.

Has anyone with a normally working Puma actually taken out their brake light fuse to test if this is a "reliable" fault?
If not, I might try it today. Is it in the fuse panel under the dash or under the seat? Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
