United Kingdom 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
1986 LR90 Electrics
Morning all,

The 90 failed its MOT on Saturday due to some weird electrical gremlins. Basically the NSF headlight is intermittent as are the indicators, hazards and rear lights. I have taken the fuse box apart (inside cabin) only to discover a couple of burnt wires, repaired these but still no joy.

I cant seem to trace the wiring loom from column light switch to fuse box - does it pass through the bulkhead into the engine bay and then back again?

Also anybody any tips of likely loom failures anywhere?

Thanks chaps. -------------------------------

Just a suggestion and only if you have the glass tube type fuses that were fitted to early 90s. If you have try taking out the fuses and with fine emery paper clean the silver contacts also clean the spring type U holders, or better still replace the headlight and indicator fuses with new. Years ago I had a 90 with glass fuses that gave me no end of trouble especially in damp wet weather.

Also on early 90s most of the connectors are bullet type for both live and earth the bullets can corrode in their holders try looking for the bullets pull them out of the connectors clean and refit or cut off the bullets and hard join the wires using a crimp connector. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Also, look at the loom around the NSF wing bulkhead area, I've seen looms in a mess around there. My 86 was damaged there. It had a bodied repair, from the back of the fuse box to the front lights... The joys of buying an old 'modified' (bodged) 90!
