N.P.K. Fertiliser.
Does anyone know where I can obtain some 20-10-10 25KG fertiliser bags?
Just 4x.

It's for Paddock use and there are a supplier or two online but the cost seems to me like they are making huge profit gains!

Burnhills charge £15 a bag plus shipping for 15-15-15 which is perfectly agreeable to me but they used to sell 20-10-10.
They don't anymore and the other supplier that does charges £23 each plus shipping so there is a big price difference there.

Mole Valley do a specialist horse paddock fertiliser but it's not much good at all being 2-2-2 or similar.

Ideally I expect to pay around £50 - £70 or there abouts.
Not £100 plus.

Any thoughts?

N-P-K isn't cheap in 25kg bags and unfortunately you pay through the nose for the convenience.

Personally, at £15 per bag I'd go for the 15-15-15 if it's suitable for your land / crop / horses. Have you had any analysis done to see what your land needs?

I tend to get mine through Carrs Billington in Carlisle in 600kg bags - local co-op's can beat them by a small margin but for me the convenience they offer outways the price disadvantage.

Can you not talk to a local farmer and offer him £14 per 25kg decanted bag? He'll be just about doubling his cost price and for the amount you're after he's unlikely to notice the amount missing Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Work out what you actually need and go and have a chat to a local farmer?
If you've been putting horse muck on (or your horses have) then you might only really need the N.

You don't have to have an analysis done every year, once you've got a baseline, you know what you're putting on and taking off you can work out where you need to be. Have a look at RB209, it's an invigorating read Rolling with laughter

There's also MANNER:

Obviously if you're only talking a tiny paddock then it might well be not worth your time and effort doing it "properly" and just chucking some on and hoping for the best would work.

If you're claiming the BPS or anything then there are lots of things to bear in mind that are often forgotten about - things like muck heaps needing either proper drainage or placing in a different area each year and a soil protection review. They're things that a lot of people are doing illegally, small scale probably without realising.

Thanks for your reply. Thumbs Up

The 15-15-15 was what I went for last time, I will again if I hear back from suppliers soon.
Will see what they say, if anything.

I haven't had a chat to any farmers locally but I have a suspicion like you that they would only use 600kg bulk bags.

I suppose the availability is reduced because agriculturally 60kg bags would be required and some and not small bags.

Cupboard - It's just 1 acre, nothing huge.
It is an apple orchard however, a lot of the apple trees have died now over the years but of course the trees do pull moisture and nutrients from the soil.

No muck spending possible due to no machinery and location / size and fertiliser application by hand.

Things have worked out really well the last few years, it's just obtaining it that can be difficult.
Especially different grades.
The best I have used before is 15-15-15 and 20-10-10 Glasson fertiliser.
There is a good soil structure and depth but does hold water in the winter despite being on a slope and gets dry in the summer.
Waterlogged is more of the issue in the winter though.

Value seems to vary.
The trouble with smaller amounts is the shipping costs unless you collect it yourself.

I got some online in the end, from Burnhills.
For some reason the 15-15-15 appeared on their site search engine but the 20-10-10 didn't.
Strangely, on Google search it did! (With difficulty)

Anyway, £70 for 4x 25KG sacks delivered next day by DPD from Yorkshire, can't complain at that.

Thumbs Up
