Hi guys,
SWMBO has recently purchased a soft top puma 90. We want to use it on caravan trip round Spain, obviously, with the basic 90 Soft Top security is non-existent ![]() We have been looking at various options to store some valuables and deter the casual thief and came across these on eBay : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminium-alloy-...LZ8DXHKVZw Has any body got one, seen one, what do you think, anything else out there? And before anybody suggests it, an old ammunition box bolted to the floor would not go down well with SWMBO ![]() Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

I've got an MSS Storage chest in the back which seems good, despite my best efforts it has remained dry inside and strong enough to stand on etc It is bigger than the photo makes out. Not yet fitted in but I dropped an MSS storage draw in the back also and it creates a great flat floor which stops 4 inches short of the tailgate.

Like the look of the MSS stuff but it's rather expensive, I know you get what you pay for but....
Thanks for your suggestions Brendan, the underfloor isn't really an option as we want something a bit bigger and easier for us to access, the Patriot security cage...sort of defeats the object of having a soft top? Suppose it could be useful if you had a lion or tiger in the back rather than a spaniel ![]() Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

I have the same set up, MSS Storage chest
Lives in the back of both the series and 110, as and when its needed,, Perfect is the S1, as the only place i can leave stuff fairly secured,, but then, maybe some door lock may help as well !! The one you linked to looks to be of similar design, materials, etc - the MSS one's are functional but not anything particularly special.
![]() Click image to enlarge Is does not appear to have a front section and the gaps between the side and the top make ideal for fishing rather large items out? Depending on the volume of kit you have your box may be the best solution; if you require more volume then a full weldmesh cage in the rear gives an element of security without intruding greatly on the openess if the sides are rolled up: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

I've got a roof rack box made by the same people that make the chest in the OP. I picked it up second hand for a reasonable price and I'm really impressed! I also picked up a MSS chest and drawer from geo bloke yesterday, they bolt through the floor and would be a right a pain if you were to try and remove it quickly - could always use security torx bolts too for an added level of security. Both would work well IMO and both are very waterproof. The chequerplate box does tend to rattle a lot though, which may or may not be a concern in the soft top.

I had one of the t Chests as per op a long time ago in my 110 at the time. Worked really well you can get a lot of stuff in one. I mounted mine on top of the rubber matting to stop any rattling. I think I also put something against the back against the bulkhead.
I lined the inside and also had made up timber dividers / trays to go in it. I would recomend a gas strut to save your fingers The only thing I would say about that type is it is difficult to reach over from the front to get something out quick. If you have it so the hinge is to the rear of the vehicle so it is easy to grab something out from the front then it's bad from the rear if that makes sense |

I think I'll try your rubber mat idea under the roof box, hopefully that'll cut out some of the buzz! Gas struts are a good idea too as the corners are quite sharp!

Looks like the T Chest in my op is favourite, for me, at present though I did pop into my local dealer, Roger Young, and am getting a quote for a similar type from them, seems theirs are made from 4mm 5 bar tread plate, so a bit stronger! Same price for up to 500mm deep, was told it would be a "bit more" than the chest in the op. Be interesting to see how much more? Will keep you informed.

Makes perfect sense! I thought I would have, say, two holes drilled in exactly the same position to fit rivnuts on both wheel arch tops so I could reverse it to open from front or rear , dependant on circumstances. Also thought it could be mounted about 75mm away from the bulkhead, which is sloped, with a cutaway, to let us put some non secure bits and pieces there such as maps, jacket etc. I already thought about the gas strut - essential on a box that size. Sounds like a good plan. The only thing I would possibly look at doing is 2 bolts either side. It stops the wobble alot more because you may find on 1 bolt it can bow the floor ever so slightly and compress the rubber more near the mounting causing a wobble. If you are planning on removing it on a more frequent basis I would cover the corners with something just to protect the paintwork in the rear tub as mine was quite a tight fit
