2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Corris Grey

Twisted Friction Plate

This follows on from my continued clutch problems. Dave at Ashcroft Transmissions, thinks after my lengthy email, that it might be a twisted friction plate (on assembly) causing drag.

Anyone know what that means, what to look for, what can be done about it?

Watch this:

Before you whip the gearbox out to check the friction (also called driven or clutch) plate you should check out the issue is not caused by:

1. lack of hydraulic fluid
2. air bubbles in the fluid
3. oil contamination
4. a worn or faulty hydraulic system

Your clutch plate may not be straight and so not disengaging fully as shown in the photo - or as others have said on other thread - maybe it's in the wrong way around - not seen a Puma one to know the difference:

Failing all that I guess if you have the gearbox out again it may be worth checking:

1. the flywheel friction area is clean and free of any deposits
2. flywheel is not warped
3. clutch cover is not warped
