I blanked mine off (Jan 2011 2.4 first licence so a 2010 build) with a 3mm ss plate (no holes in plate. EGR bolted on top of plate and still connected so ECU assumes all is OK. No remap and no dash lights. Chukka chukka still there on shutdown. Fuel economy has improved from around 10.2 lt / 100km to 9.8.

So to update this.
Fitted a new valve this morning.
Didn't realise how poor it was running until i test drove it afterwards.
Power is much stronger and smoother.
Was a pig of a job, def easier with the inlet manifold removed, decoked it while it was off as well.
Now a nice subtle chukka chukka chukka noise on shut down and no noises during gear changes.

Interesting reading regarding the blank W/O map / EGR delete.
Some reported MIL illuminated, others never at all.

Anybody know the extent of flow through the EGR that is closed? Do they after a time just self seal, carbon up? Very Happy

This is interesting. Can you share more about this? The usual blanking plates I know of for this application usually has a hole in it so that the electricals still detect something, I guess.

When I cleaned mine, it didn't work for a while but I'm reckoning it was closed. No MIL light when it was stuck but the truck drive very nice and fuel consumption was nice as well. When it started working again, I found the power was a bit restricted and that my fuel consumption went up.

A lot of people recommend blanking and I can't blame them. I may go this route soon once the coin makes itself available.

I do not have much more detail except that I take the Puma to a very well respected Indy. He recommended the blanking (gave me contact details of a number of others he had done). The blanking kit is manufactured by a precision engeneering company in RSA and consists of the plate plus gaskets. I still get the "chukka chukka" at engine switch off as well as after quite a few km of stop start traffick driving around Cape Town, but once on the open road it is silent (except for engine shutdown).
Shortly after blanking I went off on a +/-7500 km overland trip to northern Namibia and never had a hassle.
The cost of the kit was about US$ 50
