I'm reminded of what my osteopath said to me a month or two back during one of the few cold spells this winter. I turned up wearing my 'decent' Beaufort and after shedding the coat, jumper, shirt I put them over the back of the chair then lay down for the usual 30 minutes of torture.

After about 10 minutes or so the osteo suddenly commented on the odd smell quickly followed by saying that it was my wax coat and how she hadn't smelled the waxy whiff for years as she reckoned that not many people wore them now.

Back in the day when I was 'keepering I'd often remove some verminous critter out of one of my traps and shove it in one of the game pockets either for disposal away from the sight or for a snack for the ferrets ...only to be reminded by the stink when putting the coat back on days later that I'd forgotten to do either Laughing Steve.

we have a very similar past. done all that - while ago now though and we didnt have the A10s. converted to light role for it - Trumpet Dance IIRC?

the latter i spent 2.5yrs in training.

A somewhat random photo I came across, of us driving to Yakima. You'll just make out the Clansman Antenna base and Antenna sitting on the wing-mounted box. Plus the obligatory Bergen straps etc....

Barbour field sports 3 in 1 shooting jacket, it beats all my other jackets for warmth and staying dry and better still, it's made in the north east!

I've got the winter utility. Great jacket. All the points are valid,m especially about them now being fashion items. However, what is not to like about getting out and about with the dog and getting very very wet in it, then wearing the same jacket to go into town or to the pub and not looking out of place?

One jacket for many occasions = money saved. 2002 110 td5

I have a large collection of Barbour coats and jackets from both traditional and fashion lines, love them all but since moving down here I rarely get to wear them. If it's a bit chilly doing the horses it's a Barbour shirt and a Hoggs of Fife waxed Gilet. Thumbs Up

Yes you do grow attached to your old Barbour. I couldn't see my wife letting me appear on national television wearing it though.

I had a Border many years ago , it eventually wore out so sent it back to get refurbed and then wore it until it fell to pieces, Bought another Barbour 4 years ago, not sure they are the same quality as they were. I do like it but only to go out in rather than scrambling through the brambles. I have a Musto which is brilliant and stands up to the weather better than the old design Barbour. They are a bit like Defenders, there are more modern things that will do the job but I would not be without my Defender Smile

You 2 should of tried harder at school and become Sappers. Rolling with laughter Whistle We know we can't shoot straight and hit a barn door at 10 paces. That is why they invented plastic explosives. So much more fun and everyone gets to see the results.
I was the DSO for 2 X firepower demos at Warminster. In the week with rehearsals and live demo days to the audience we used 2T of explosives. Nothing better to see or hear. 110 D250 SE HT

“… should of tried harder at school”

I do hope that's Socratic irony. And no, he's not Olympiakos' goalkeeper…
