Defender Chums,
All well with you? Continuing along my theme over many threads as I look for a DC to mod-to-the-max (NOT like a Spectre) I have been seeing some high mileage examples at 'sensible' prices that work well within my budget and would allow me to maximise the targeted improvements. However, I was just wondering what thoughts those with more experience have on Puma Defenders with over 100k on the clock. What starts failing (if anything outside normal Defender ownership wear and tear)? What might need to be replaced? Shafts, ball joints etc. Also a priority will be an engine remap (BAS), what if any work would need to be done to the engine to maximise the benefits of such a tune? Anything? In essence I am completley overhauling the Defender, so am happy with bumps, bashes, scrapes, threadbare seats etc. It's engine and moving stuff I'm worried about. Further, I am happy with progressive tinkering on these areas in future years, what I don't want is to create a money pit for myself, just around the corner. BTW, this all relates to 2008> Puma 2.4 DCs. To give clarity, here's what I am looking at upgrading, so you get a feel for what will be left untouched and may cause future problems: Full re-spray Sound proofing and new carpet BAS remap, Intercooler, hoses New wheels/tyres throughout New lights throughout Pair Recaros Leather dash trim Leather cubby New rack New tonneau New fast road kit (Urban, susies, springs, dampers, ARBs) New Window tint New grille New bumpers, front and rear New stereo/speakers New Chq Plate Full dinitrol. Maybe other things I have forgotten So based on the above spec, what disadvantage would there be to buying a +100k DC? Help and thoughts, as always, muchly appreciated. ![]() I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

(touching wood as I type this and stroking a black cat...)
![]() I’m on an 07 110 TDCI 2.4 with about 180k on the clock, a BAS remap and have not had any major issues other than clutch and fan belt tensioner replacement. Battery was replaced after 7 yrs, It gets a regular service and lots of driving. couple of electrical niggles and light control stork replacements was well. I think its due a UJ change out on the prop shaft soon and has a slight weep on the front dif that I keep an eye on every now and and then. other than that is my pride and joy and getting well used. hope that helps ... As an owner of a low mileage one, I agree!
