Table lights...
Apologies if this is in the wrong place, but figured there isn't really a 'other projects' section of this site... And Defender bits were used so I suppose it is technically a modification.

I happen to work at a garage, meaning scrap is fairly easy to come by, when we had a 130 in for new front CV joints I couldn't help looking at the old ones and wanting to do something with them.

So. I cleaned them up and welded an old drive flange (upside down) to the shaft, then sat and welded the old cv joint 'cage' to the top to give me this:

Next I had to figure out how I was going to run the cable up to the top for the light... Yep, these are turning into bedside table lamps... So, using a bit of copper fuel line (larger diameter than brake pipe and far easier to work with) I bent it roughly into shape and attached it with jubilee clips to the side of the lamp. I then found some old light fittings and attached them to the top, and ran cables:

Next I had to work out how to make a lamp shade for the project... And the answer was given to me once my brother saw them... 'Air filters mate, big cone ones!' So that was that, I bought some cheap eBay vine filters, ripped the inners out and attached using the holes in the drive flange:

Pleased with how they looked I lit them up!

Very pleased with myself and now have ideas in my head for all sorts of other stuff. Let me know what you all think though!

Best, Duggie.

Time to make a few more then whack them down to the international auto jumble at Beauliue and make a fortune !

They would look great on a v8 table
