Diff and gearbox oil drain plug questions..
Hi

What is the tool size for the diff and gearbox oil drain and fill plugs?
(Defender 130 MY2012)

After filling, do I have to secure the plug with a thread compound (locktight)?

Are the plugs reusable, or do I have to renew them all?

Regards

Quirin

On my 1999 Defender is a 1/2" square drive for the diffs.
Reusable and have never used lock compound on the threads.
I think the gearbox drain is also a 1/2" square drive as is the transfer case drain and filler.. Not sure if this has changed on later models.
The gearbox filler on mine is Torx T-55 I think 1999 Defender TD5 110

Quirin,

Diffs is 1/2" female (Half duims ratel vierkant) Gearbox is hex for both filler and drain. Believe its 8mm (inbus). Plugs are reusable and conical (conisch) and therefore do not need any loctite or any other sealant. Specifications say fill gearbox not to hole but exactly 2.2L, I always fill to hole, as do all other LR specialists in NL.
