2016 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Scotia Grey
Cold weather package brand new 2016MY
Picked up my new defender this month. it arrived without 2 options I ordered, heated seats and windscreen. The dealer refunded the option price, but I asked if these can be installed anyway by ordering the required parts. He told me , no the wiring is not there and would be difficult, then he told me I don't need them anyway because the seats don't heat very well, just a couple of wire strips in the bottom (its not like a range rover he said) and the windshield is mainly for arctic countries. I still want them but is the dealer correct on his points, that they will be difficult to retrofit and not work well anyway

THANKS

SALLDHMR8GA488xxx is a XS model is not supposed to be standard

thanks!!! Big Cry Big Cry

The seats don't heat very well? Is he serious?!!
Heated seats and windscreen. One of the few things on a Defender that work very well. Wouldn't want to be without them.

Sounds to me like he's fobbing you off. I would have insisted on the options as that is what you ordered. Seems you haven't got what you paid for and refunding the cost is a cheap way for the dealer to get out of their obligation rather that retro fitting them.

Heated screens and seats work very well and I find them to be essential items during British winters, especially on frosty mornings.

My retro fitted heated screen is used as much in our glorious moist summers as it is in the colder weather. Nothing worse than a misted up windscreen when it's warm and raining, as soon as you get inside with the kids all breathing and with wet coats the windows mist up allmost immediately, the heated screen comes into its own then Thumbs Up

Agree with previous posts
Heated screen and seats are excellent
Have had heated seats in various be buckets and are quicker and hotter than most such as Nissan Navara.(sorry for swearing on forum!)
Personally I would not have accepted a refund of the option. They are after all in breach of their the terms of the contract.
I would make a complaint at JLR head office and copy the dealer in on it.

I retro-fitted a heated screen to my Puma (County-spec so it didn't have one from new) and although there's a fair bit of work to do it properly it is entirely possible and well within the scope of a vehicle electrician or competent owner.

The heated screen is the second best modification I have made to the vehicle (I rate the VW99 variable vwipe relay as the best) and I simply would not be without it.

I can't comment on heated seats, but they are probably easier to retrofit (certainly no harder) than the screen.

Your dealer is fobbing you off, or simply doesn't want the work.

Mobile centre do a wiring kit for the heated screen and heated screens can be picked up off eBay or any windscreen supplier. Fcx do a wiring kit for the heated seats and lri solutions used to sell genuine heating pads for the seats. All are forum sponsors and any competent auto electrician should be able to fit them. Ray

Ahhhrrgghh

Dealers, dealers...

I installed both on mine....

not so difficult....

Just Mk1 told

"1. Mobile centre do a wiring kit for the heated screen and heated screens can be picked up off eBay or any windscreen supplier.

2. Fcx do a wiring kit for the heated seats

3. LRI Solutions used to sell genuine heating pads for the seats."

Mind that the heated screen has 300-350 W (25 - 30 A) absorption, so you MUST install the right harness (8 - 15 mins. timed ON only when the engine is running) Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Are there any relays that turn on when the engine starts rather than when the ignition is turned on?
Obviously you can fit a VSR but is there a nicer way of doing it?

Yes, with the engine running signal that the instrument pack generates (on a Puma) or engine oil pressure switch signal (Td5 and earlier)  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
