K9f guide to Safari Equip single pivot wheel carrier.
I have for sale a Safari Equip wheel carrier. Its the one that attaches only to the crossmember (and door) as shown in the picture below (not my picture BTW) I haven't taken a picture of the actual one as its currently in the loft, but this pic shows exactly how it looks when fitted.

This is a heavy duty bit of kit, in excellent condition being only fitted for a short period. It is compatible with SE bumperettes which are available from Brendan (as shown in the picture).

Comes with fitting kit as supplied including the anti crush tubes for the crossmember.

The carrier can be adjusted to give two different wheel heights, the higher one ideal if using a tow bar.

There is quite a bit of info on this carrier on here.

Price new as far as I know is around £425, SOLD and collected. I think its a bit heavy to arrange postage.

I'm at Wimborne, Dorset.

I can take paypal, card or bank transfer whichever is easiest.

Thanks

Managed to do a little preparation for the fitment of my purchase.....

Went to Eurofasteners and purchased a complete set of replacement stainless steel fixings. Ran them via a drill and some Autosolvol to polish them up a bit.
Excuse photo quality but low light and a Cwapberry to blame....

DJ was kind enough to supply me a roll of high density foam to use as gasket for the door plate etc....provisionally cut gaskets. Holes still to do but marked with marker pen.

The carrier came ready-assembled so broke it down for ease of fitment to rear crossmember.

Will 'revisit' it either Friday (if I can 'swing' no pun intended a day off) or the weekend, weather dependant....Thanks again DJ. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Did a trawl and found this pertaining the wheel carrier.....

Oh and one final thing, you need to ask for some extra crush cans to fit in the cross member, if you have enought for every bolt that goes through would be good.

Potentially I have 8 bolts and only 5 anti-crush spacers...... Whistle

Got a new set 'knocked up' out of stainless today at work (original one is the one in the middle)..... Thumbs Up

Got the rear bracket fitted today. Only needed 6 anti-crush spacers after all as the two end mounting holes (the two depicted without bolts fitted) have anti-crush tubes fitted/welded as standard in my 90s rear crossmember. Also these two end bolts are 20mm longer than the rest so the ones I sourced weren't long enough. All bolts were heatshrunk and anti-crush spacers filled and coated with Waxoyl (once I had sat the tin on the woodburner to get it runny). Both front and rear plates have had gaskets made from high density foam. Pivot arm has been dismantled and treated to waxoyl on the inside, bearing housing cleaned out and regreased. As tempting as it was to fit the arm, shall leave it until I get the extra length bolts required.

With a little 'rework' on my bumperette I shall with 'revised' mounting brackets pick up the mounting holes of the rear swing away plate and be able to retain it.

All work in progress but enjoyable all the same...... Thumbs Up

Bumperette rework....

Got bracket finished off today. Used Transit wheel nut covers filled with Sikaflex to protect and seal the bolt heads and nuts under the rear of the crossmember. Didn't bother with end bolts as the bumperette is having new brackets manufactured to pick up these bolts and I should be refitting it next weekend hopefully.

Rear door panel fitted with high density foam gasket, adjusted and waxoyled and carrier head fitted. Had to shorten the wheel mounting studs to take the stainless Wrington wheelnuts. Fitted high density foam gasket to the head along with PTFE washers with stainless washers inside to protect the wheel as I did on the original door carrier.

In summation a very well engineered piece of kit. Took some 'fettling' to get it fitted and how I wanted. Decided to mount the wheel on the higher mounting position as with tinted windows I couldn't see bu993r all out the rear anyway. End result.....

nice job Mal, given the weight of the wheel carrier and those HUGE wheels, you may need to adjust your headlights!

Thanks Karlos....Went to Kimmeridge and nearly took Ruby's block off due to the slope/wind and weight of rear door self-closing. DJ came along with an attractive offer and I jumped at it.
