Renovation Advice
Hi all

I recently became the custodian of a Series 3 88 diesel hardtop and want to do a sympathetic renovation. ie. not spend a fortune !! Is there a 'go too' forum for this sort of stuff? I am looking for advice on the must do/change items.

I have been searching but seems to be a tad muddled or maybe thats me Thumbs Up

So far I have earmarked;

Parabolic Springs - Probably RM
Safari Top - Probably exmoor
Bonnet Spare wheel

It was last MOTd in 1999 and as such has been gone over with a fine toothcomb (not by me) , so mechanically/structurally I know what needs done and surprisingly not too much IMHO

Many thanks for any pointers

Join the Series 3 club.

You will find a wealth of information within these clubs, they have their own forums which can be an advantage regarding finding second hand parts etc.

You would be supprised at what changes hands through members, rather than having to trawl through eBay.

I would highly recommend joining.. Thumbs Up

Just a thought re the wheel on the bonnet - it's getting increasingly hard to find good unmolested bonnets for any Series Land-Rovers now. If you have a good bonnet, why not keep it plain, if need be buy another bonnet with the wheel mount?

I really regret now putting a carrier on my plain 80" bonnet back in 1980 and wish I'd kept it plain!

I don't think I would bother with parabolic springs again, perhaps try to get a ride in a parabolic sprung Landy before you spend your cash Very Happy

I have Rocky Mountain parabolics on the 86" and they are utterly brilliant, providing a vast improvement in ride quality, and probably as good as coils.

^^^ That's interesting, my experience with parabolics is different, the ride is still harsh, but I have often wondered about the recommended ProComp shocks.....
My springs were made by British Springs, I think they had financial difficulties but are now back in business

I went with the matching Pro-Comp shocks as well, which may make a significant difference.
