[Wanted] Help for local Scout Campsite
I have been asked to try and source some equipment for our local Scout Campsite, Buckmore Park, Kent.
The site has had a lot of problems during recent times, but is now getting back on its feet.
In order to be able to maintain the site they are looking for the following equipment.
Tractor, preferably MF135, or Ford 3000, or similar size, but it needs to go into container so would need a folding roll bar rather than a cab.
3 ton tipping trailer
Topper / Slewtic type grass cutter
3 point linkage forks, not forklift type, but just to be able to lift a pallet off of the ground
Link box.
I am hoping people on here will have contacts who may be able to help.
Money is a problem, they have a limited budget, so are looking for good working kit, rather than pretty.
This is really cheeky, but if you don't ask you don't get, should anybody be willing to donate any of these items or equipment which would be useful it would be greatly appreciated. Razz
Please pm me if you are able to help or have any contacts that can, with an idea of prices, so that I can go back to them to see how far the budget can stretch.
Collection can be arranged.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Git Face (!!)

As a Scout Leader who's often on the scrounge, I hope you find some kit. It's fairly specific what you want and whilst you might be lucky here, an alternate route might be to look for grants to buy second-hand kit. It's getting scarcer these days but we've had good fortune with local authority Area Boards these last couple of years and also been known to wring a few quid out of the local parish councils.

Best of luck

Jonny,
I think the problem these days is there is a dwindling amount of help people are willing to give, and a lot more organisations wanting a slice of that decreasing pie.
Buckmore Park are willing to buy the right equipment, but if they don't buy correctly for what they are going to use kit for, they will only regret it in the future.
I have cheekily asked for a donation just in case somebody has something laying around unused and getting in their way, in my experience that only happens just after I have gone and bought the same kit, the somebody says I've got one of them you could have had, so I thought I would ask first this time!

You can buy some really cheap eastern European grass cutters new for about £2000. Don't, they're crap. Buy a second hand decent one.

Having grown up all through Scouting, I've never known of a single Scout Troop having or needing that amount of 'plant'? I don't know your circumstances but to me it seems like a big outlay and one going cost. Maybe speak to local farmers for a rota of mowing? Parents/local garden care companies with ride on mowers. The one thing I hope you have is lots of willing energetic Scouts just buy some scythes!! I'm sure that's safe!

Buckmore Park is 142 Acres of mixed woodland and campsites, they will never get on top of it without their own equipment, there is only so much help you can call on from local farmers and companies etc. people don't mind helping a fewof times, but you unfortunately you can't keep asking.

Ah 142acres, yes Ok I can see the need now! With the way agricultural machinery is at the moment, I'm doubtful you'll get any special dealers and this sort of machinery is snapped up by small holders so holds it's value well. I'm not sure what the answer is. All you can do is put the word out and hope a generous person has what you need! Fingers crossed! Thumbs Up

Worth sticking something on your local farmers, small holder, agri machinery groups on Farcebook and one or two of the larger farming forums. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

[Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc]

I'm a volunteer at a local scout site and can echo what has been said about the grass cutters, buy second hand quality rather than cheap new. We have had loads of problems with crap kit snapping belts, shearing pulleys etc.

With regards tractors, we had a small Kubota that was a good piece of kit which we replaced a few years ago with a New Holland which is also a good little piece of kit. Not sure what the model is but has the folding roll bar and fits nicely into a container.

Good luck with the search.

Have you considered using a contractor for the work? I know you will pay for the labour but you won't have any of the other worries that come with capital equipment expenditure - maintenance, theft, training, fuel, etc?
