Same as Mash, tell them everything, no worries at claim time then.
Give APlan a try, Kirsty gave me a competitive quote, but doesn't work for everyone. It can be a pain to list them all but always better to.
Easy way is to make a list and suggest you email it to them. |

I am in the process of renewing at the moment. Currently with A-Plan. Sent them an email with a list of absolutely everything I have changed or plan to change from standard spec. Even declaring worklight, WIPAC crystal headlights, smaller steering wheel, diff guards etc. Price difference was minimal. Better to be safe than sorry and declare the lot.

A friend of a friend had a Golf, it had a non standard grill fitted when he bought the car. He claims he was unaware it was modified. Was involved in a single vehicle accident. The insurance company did not pay out.
Declare everything. Cheers Rod |

Just to support the best practice of declaring all non standard modifications, I declared absolutely everything right down to a padded cubby box lid. The telephone agent at Aviva had not come across anything like this before but it didn't change the policy price. The only item I have read that may change the premium is a raised air intake, but I don't have one so can't confirm this. So, better safe than sorry doesn't much cost either. |

I remember a story in the papers a while ago where a woman had problems with her insurance because she had not declared a sticker in a window as a "modification". The insurance company's argument was that the sticker (might have been religious?) made the car a higher risk for vandalism.
So its not just about what makes a vehicle faster, it is also what might make it more attractive to steal, more attractive for vandals, more expensive to repair or what might cause more damage to another vehicle etc Plus of course any excuse to avoid payment whether it is justified or not. |

Bang on, yay or neigh they'll do it regardless. Even if you do get a so called repair it'll be what they want not what you want. Completed by some complete such and suches. They won't insure value no more either, they'll decide what they think is fit. And guess what, nothing like everything else with big business nothing and no one stops them doing just what they like. If I remember the case you mean, the key was that the presence and nature of the stickers, and there were many, indicated without doubt that she had a number of very loose screws! I imagine that being utterly bonkers makes you a reasonably unattractive risk to the insurance company! I always append a full list of modifications and alterations to all correspondence regarding the vehicle, so that there is no question that the insurer can claim not to have been informed. Mind you, I am not sure what happens if you tell the broker and the broker fails to tell the insurer. |

My broker has all my mods on a list attached to the file for it so I assume they have told the above company, as I have copies of this if any problems arrised then I could argue I have informed as much as I could do, to be fair they had no problems paying out when my G4 D2 was written off and that had a few mods done to it. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

I parted company many years ago from the Co-op insurance when we fell out over a roof rack fitted to my 110. Not interested if it was a genuine part 'it was a modification' computer says no' syndrome. I took my business (other car & sons car with me) .

A quick google search shows this http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/how-stickers...ld-5244082 which is certainly more than a window sticker. There is similar sign writing down the side as well. |

I wonder if the old Top Gear presenters told their insurers about the writing down the sides of the cars in the US road trip episode |

I imagine that they had rather specialised and probably very expensive insurance!
