Another oil question - has anyone ever had problems with DPF
Hi all,

As title really - has anyone ever experienced problems with 2.2 DPF? Particularly engines with a few miles on the clock? Either light coming on or dealer regen required?

I only ask the question as I am certain that some dealers do not use the correct spec oil and I do wonder whether it has actually caused any problems or not....

Thanks,
Will

I have experienced problems although I suppose the retailer used the correct oil as listed on invoice.
Car has been towed to retailer. Juli.

Ok thanks - on my invoice it simply said castrol 5w-30.

Technically correct I guess - although the wrong spec.

But to be honest I do wonder if it is such a big deal unless you are doing a lot of short journeys. I see BMW recommend a5/b5 for their diesels, although the dpf will be a different design of course.

That's right. A4/B5 is high SAPS - C1 is low SAPS.

A high SAPS oil causes more soot i.e. shorter life cycles for the DPF.
A low SAPS is worthwile for your DPF.

Juli.
