Can I mount speakers into Cubby Box?
Just taken delivery of some nice 5.25" speakers which do fit into holes under dash, but the speaker grills are super wide and therefore go way outside of the profile and the dash and looks awful Sad

I was therefore thinking on mounting the speakers into the cubby box on each side - has anyone ever done this? Will the speaker work OK given the rears will both be contained the same area.....distortion!?

It looks like the best place to put them, or should I say only place to put them Sad

Can anyone help?

A friend of mine has done this in his ex military 90. stuck the speakers in each side. can't remember what size they are (if they're 5" round or 6x9's)

Obviously the sound isn't going to be fantastic, but better than whistling and singing to yourself!

Basically no matter the size/brand of the speakers, you won´t get any good sound unless the box is somehow sealed, ehich is not the case of of any Defender front dash. Puma 110" SW

Thanks - thinking of mounting in cubby and then sealing them off inside the cubby, making the storage space smaller but hopefully better sound.

I fitted mine in the lower part of front doors using a thin wood spacer. I´m not planning to wad that deep and these are std coaxial pioneer 16 cm speakers. Also got a pair of good adjustable twitters (Lanzar) for the upper dash. It is far for being a pro system, but it does the job much better than the factory rubbish speakers. Can post some pics if you are interested. Puma 110" SW
