I dunno what you call it, the steering column is what goes through the bulkhead then there's this rod with a UJ at each end. Upper steering column UJ? Don't think you can buy the UJ separate, comes with the steering column lower rod assembly? Winter's here, thanks goodness! |

You mean the ujs on the column between the bulkhead and the steering box?

Seems a few come looking for help but don't complete this section - can you make it mandatory, obviously with an option of nil for those that don't have one?

Senior moment. Deleted. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. That's effectively what's then now, there has to be an option for "None", and if it defaulted to a model then we would get a bunch of registrations with that set and nothing else 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

I think the part you need is QME500031
Pre-TD5 the UJs were replaceable independently, but TD5 on the shaft must be changed. The 2.4 TDCi shaft will fit a TD5 but (at least in theory) but the TD5 shouldn't be fitted to a TDCi since the Puma shaft has an additional heat shield to protect one of the joints from the heat of the cat. I don't know if the 2.4 and 2.2 shafts are the same - I suspect that there's even more heat from the DPF/cat on the 2.2. From what I remember when I needed one, the TD5 part is expensive if genuine and the TDCi part with the extra heatshield is eye-wateringly expensive (I think the heatshield must be made from Unobtanium, that rarest of all metals, to justify the price). In the end I bought a use part from a breaker, which was genuine and off a low-mileage write-off, but cost only about £25. At any time you'll find a number on Ebay, eg this I have bought stuff off this guy in the past and always been entirely happy with the accuraccy of the description and the speed and quality of service. Whilst the price of the pattern parts is attractive, ask yourself if you want the steering wheel connected to the steering box by a safety critical component made by Britpart! |

Agree on the part number for a 2002 Td5
There are options for this from £200+VAT for a genuine LR part down through £85+VAT for OEM via Bearmach or Britpart to £37+VAT for a pattern Britpart, Allmakes or Bearmach supplied part. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
