Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
Well, the good news is, as of tomorrow, ALL Defenders will join the history league of the true "Legends". Thumbs Up

And more good news, for those who missed the boat so far, here in this country there remain dozens and dozens brand new 90/110/130 still looking for a good home, some at reasonable prices. Look at below autoscout website of current offer.

Like these beauties for instance....

Above are just some examples of unsold lovely non traditional 130HCPU and 110 DCPU, but also the brand new 90/110 SW versions remain in good dealer stock today, including Adventures and Heritages. As further proven by below recent picture...

Get it while you can. Thumbs Up
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I wonder how many of the Defender owners who will exchange the familiar wave today, will realise the significance....

Hello Wild Card 90

Absolutely right, working in new product development all my life, we need to build less better.
The characteristic / ability for on-going economic maintenance / upgrade should not be designed out.

The Defender achieves longevity because it is good enough when it leaves the factory and it has
attracted owners who value, maintain and adapt the product... if this aspect is 'engineered out' it will
be a sad day.

I kinow what you mean, but in reality they weren't even building Series Ones in 1950 and certainly not Defenders - they were building Land-Rovers.

The Defender as we know and love it, will swiftly turn into what it essentially has been for about 20 years. An anachronistic throwback from a time gone by.

Those that appreciate it for what it is, and can afford to drive and enjoy it in the manner that classic cars are enjoyed, will continue to do so. For those people, the shortcomings and weaknesses are seen as character, and as a challenge to be mastered. A vehicle that involves you, even when driven at todayīs (ever slower) socially and environmentally acceptable low, traffic bound, speeds.

Today was the last day of the Defender as a production vehicle.

Tomorrow is itīs first day in honourable and well earned retirement.

I will enjoy my Defender just as much, if not even more than before.
