probably going to upset someone this but in my little world I see it all the time ... - at least I think I do?
the refugees in Cardiff the other day complaining about having to wear wrist bands - would they complain if they had a free pass to Alton Towers and had to wear wrist bands? the influx of refugees - is it Sweden where they're talking about confiscating valuables as they do to locals before handing out benefits - is someone suggesting they should be treated better than the locals? should our refuges be treated better than our homeless? should our homeless be discriminated against? disabled persons (not individuals) - one hand there's been a huge move and the discrimination act to ensure they are treated equally and to ensure they can get on with things without any attention being brought to themselves - but then they get to park where they, get various financial benefits and so on. so they do and don't want to be treated like the rest of us? going through the school application process at the moment with my children and it would appear that because my children are 'normal' / 'average' they get discriminated against. if they are from a poor household, ethnic minority etc they'll get preferential treatment - is that my children's fault ? WTF ! ![]() |

normally I would agree
![]() but on this occasion the the 'idle scounging git' (homeless or otherwise) seems to be getting treated less well than the new comers from some other part of the world? also I have a conundrum - it was mentioned on here sometime back that travellers get £15k per child for home education. now if my daughter doesn't get into the first 3 choices of school and is given a place in a somewhat less desirable school can I rent my house out, go live in a caravan, explain I've decided to live the life of a traveller - claim £15k per year and send her to a private school? I'm thinking probably not as I'm going to be discriminated against? |

I thought that the reason the refugees were objecting to the wristbands was because the local hoodlums were using them to identify refugees and beating them up. If so, then I think that it is reasonjable to object!
The real objection though should be to being seen as a target and beaten up, the wristband is incidental. The real problem as I see it is that despite all the refugee business, all the famine, poverty, drought, climate change, and all the other bad stuff happening, nobody but nobody yet seems ready to address the elephant in the room - the fact that there are simply too many people on the planet now. There seems to be a sort of global denial on this with no-one prepared even to acknowledge that there is or ever will be a problem, but the population cannot keep growing at its present rate. Sooner or later steps will have to be taken to regulate the human population. The unthinkable will become the unavoidable. |

In Alton Towers everyone has to wear the wristband and you're fee to remove it once you no longer want to use the facilities. Nobody is made to stand out as being different.
I was under the impression that councils were equally obliged to provide accommodation to the homeless just as they are fro refugees.
There is a lot of equal opportunities legislation, not just the anti discrimination laws. Sure the disabled folks get benefits both financial and soft (such as close to the store parking). Do you really begrudge them that, especially given the daily challenges they face, which (by the grace of God) you and I don't have to?
No, not your children's fault, how could it be? But if you don't like the system you do have the choice to step out of it as my wife & I did with our offspring. We didn't like any of our local schools for one reason or another so we opted out of state funded crowd control education. I guess my point is this. Look hard enough at any situation and you'll find faults. Personally I'm grateful I'm not a refugee fleeing from an oppressive or murderous or genocidal regime, nor do I live the life of a traveller and neither am I at the mercy of the state. Sure there's things I don't like but they are as they are. Me complaining about it isn't going to change anything so why get upset? After all, things could be worse. I wouldn't swap places with any of the "beneficiaries" you've mentioned. |

I'm begrudging any of the above but on the face of it at times it very much seems there are two standards and the one that most suits at the time is argued as being 'their right'.
are the homeless on our streets offered free food and shelter as per the refugees ? I don't know but it would appear not (on the face of it). I'd be really interested to know more about your 'opting out of the state' stuff. That is the one area that really does pee me off. To think I'm working my butt off (well not right this very second ![]() back to the refugee's and the wrist bands - I reckon there's probably a few hundred women in Germany that would endorse them being worn so they CAN stand out from the crowd and be given a wide birth so to speak. |

Nobody should be discriminated against - it's as simple as that.
But - because we live in a society where everyone is trying to get higher up the ladder, get one over the neighbours, have a better car, bigger house, more money, fill our homes with useless rubbish that nobody actually 'needs' - it will never end. We live in a capitalistic world unfortunately. There will always be somebody who's better off than you, and there will always be somebody who's not happy with that. People who come here from other countries soon pick up our ways and end up like us, human nature I'm afraid, that's why they start to moan - like us. Nobody seems to appreciate the simple things in life any more, good food, kids playing, family, sunshine, running water, health, happiness.... |

couldn't agree more...... one thing I always saw as stupid was some years back with all the famine in etheopia - correct me if I'm wrong but they're known to be one of the biggest exporters of food (are they?) - so there's this big famine going on and all these babies (which clearly need feeding) but there's no food? perhaps like in China they should look to limit the numbers? as my wifes granddad suggested - we need another world war to cull the population - not a nice thought but there would likely be some upsides to it ![]() |

Guys, I've closed threads like this before and I am doing the same here.
This is because I do not have the time to moderate what undoubtedly will become a very heated discussion, and the forum rules are clear on posting hurtful/hateful content, so before it degenerates I feel it best to stop it. Martin ![]() ![]() |
