Seems there's a few threads on here about people going for the record but all reports stop before the attempt is made or at least don't update with any road reports after the event.
This looks like another failure, albeit a good attempt: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge "But regardless of whether their next trip is Cape Town or Carlisle one thing is for sure that it will not be in the Land Rover. They have left it with relatives in Africa for it to be stripped and sold off for parts showing little sentiment for their four-wheeled companion. "I was attached to it in the beginning but when it kept breaking I wanted to burn it," said Paul." http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2016/02...cape-town/ |

Do you have any other information on it apart from the newspaper article.
It does not seem well planned or executed from the information there. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

My absolute respect to the gentlemen.
However ten thousand quid on a 15 year old Discovery isnīt high end perparation, is it? I think they did pretty well, considering...... 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

Little wonder it kept breaking, it says "Britpart" on the side!

Thanks for the link Supacat.
Still looks like a brave attempt. For a high speed cross Africa run I would have started my planning with a new chassis not a 16 year old one. Then bolted my shiny bits on to that. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

I guess it depends on what they call high speed! If it's fast enough to give things a real hammering, then I'd be looking at reinforcing key areas of the chassis and suspension

I think you're all being very unfair about britpart - the stickers look just fine, there doesn't appear to be any evidence of them lifting at the corners or anything adverse.
If I was doing that trip (and to be fair I'm not sure of the route exactly but I'd possibly have been inclined to ditch the hi-lift jack of the roof in preference for a GPMG. boca horam and all that (I'm sure I've spelt that wrong but hopefully you know what I mean). |

How funny. Let's set off in a rusty old Landy and expect it to perform like a new one. 1951 80" S1 2.0
