Some interesting facts in this article:
"Last year, Britain's auto industry turned over a record £69.5bn. That's 61% higher than in 2000. But what are these cars and where exactly are they made. Directly employing 160,000, with almost 800,000 and counting across the wider supply chain, the sector has experienced a 40% increase in productivity since 2010, making it the third largest car producer in the EU." Not exactly exhaustive on the manufacturers though. http://www.themanufacturer.com/articles/wh...they-made/ |

Hmm - I think this is a deeper question here. And also a difference between "built" (like our Land Rovers) and "Assembled" like some "Japanese" brands.
Nissan are a huge outfit in the Newcastle area, Toyota near Derbyshire (more "assemblers" than "builders" I guess?) Vauxhall fly the flag very well: http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/about-vauxhall/about-us/company.html as a major UK employer and manufacturer Ford have huge investments in the UK still - I did some work with them in Dagenham a couple of years back. Many of these companies have a huge pull-thru to local suppliers too. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Nissan in Sunderland built more cars than the whole of Itaily's car industry.
Toyota's in Derby Honda in SwIndon. Mini in Oxford Ford, Vauxhall and JLR at various locations. Low volume producers like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Morgan and Lotus etc. .... 75% of global motorsport R&D is carried out in UK. Of the 11 F1 teams 8 are based in UK. 1 in 3 Ford vehicles sold globally had its engine built in UK. The list goes on Military vehicles, trucks, buses, plant and tractors etc |

What makes you say that? "The processes at Burnaston include stamping (pressing panels from rolls of steel), welding, painting, plastic mouldings (bumpers and instrument panels/dashboards) and assembly and at Deeside machining, assembly and aluminium casting" http://blog.toyota.co.uk/factory-to-forecourt |

I was to believe that Toyota design and build right here. There are big factories by us making pressing for Toyota and JLR.
They said on the news today in the last year over a million cars were built in the uk. It's great to hear such good news. |

Lotus - yes UK still - Norfolk hasn't managed to break away yet
1,587,677 total in 2015 - up nearly four per cent on 2014’s number, and it’s the highest figure recorded since 2005; but the the all-time record for car production in Britain was achieved in 1972, when 1.92m vehicles were manufactured. JLR produced the most at 489,923, nearly trebling its production figure over the last five years. Nissan was 2nd with around 13,000 less than JLR at 476,589. And talking of Lotus - they celebrated success, too, registering 375 cars in 2015. That’s its best figure in five years! Over 77 per cent of the cars built here last year were exported, helpings cars comprise 11.8 per cent of all UK exports. http://www.topgear.com/car-news/british/br...-year-high Last edited by Supacat on 22nd Jan 2016 11:58am. Are you thinking of the Foxhound (formerly Ocelot) from General Dynamics Land Systems - Force Protection Europe (GDLS-FPE)?
Their HQ is in Leamington Spa, spares come from their facility in Telford but all UK army Foxhounds have been assembled by Ricardo under subcontracts from GDLS-FPE at their special vehicle facility at Shoreham, UK. |
