While the belts off, I suggest you have a play with the idler pulleys, if they feel notchy then replace them, quite cheap and simple enough job.

My engine sounded quite rough sounding (metallic), i got quite worried for a while until i removed the belt and ran the engine - noise disappeared, i then found that both of my pulleys (the in the AC and ACE positions) were notch, replaced them with genuine LR parts.

Cheers
Andy

Which part numbers are they? (the pulleys)

THe reason I ask is because i'm in Canada and Postage is usually the same price as the parts! So it is better I make one order instead of several.

Hi Kweese,

Have you tried LR Imports in Calgary, they seem to have a large selection of parts and accessories

Hi,

I dug into my emails and found this:-

1 x Idler Td5 Less ACE (Genuine) ERR6658LR (ERR6658LR) = £38.33
1 x Idler Td5 Less Air Con (Genuine) ERR6493LR (ERR6493LR) = £25.00
1 x Tensioner Fan Belt Td5 (Genuine) ERR6951G (ERR6951LR) = £35.00

All this was from island 4x4.

I went the whole hog and bought all three, I didn't fit the tensioner idler (not yet), probably will as soon as I have a reason to get into that area of the car again.

Above is correct for:-
Defender 110, 2001 TD5, with no AC and no ACE;

Cheers
Andy

kweese, give Peter at 3 Brothers Classic Land Rovers in Ontario a call. They bring in a container weekly and offer excellent service and pricing. They'll treat you right if you are not doing your own importing. http://3brothersclassicrovers.com
