Hi. I was on the highway yesterday and my coolant drained out through the same Welch (frost) Plug. I didnt realize until i saw the temp just shoot up for a second. I stopped the car and realized that there was no coolant. I drove another 20 km home, while watching the temperature guage. Does the temperature gauge only measure coolant temperature???

Most do yes, in this situation I would of topped up the coolant with water to drive it home. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Diesels run hotter generally.
The OP might have gotten away with it, if the ambient temp is low enough, I note he is in Canada, so -25deg C with -50 wind-chill would definitely help in the engine cooling department. I think TD5's run cooler anyway don't they, i.e. it takes ages to warm up? Also note that the coolant would have drained to that level, so wouldn't have been completely empty. Always a chance and well, at this stage what have you got to lose?! Cheers Andy |

only thing to do is to replace plug, refill, bleed and see what if any thing is up?
