Single DIN versus Double DIN
I have decided that there are only two things lacking with my Defender - a reversing camera and a sat nav. A reversing camera to help me go backwards, particularly in the dark and a sat nav to show me the way going forwards. I dont want to have two screens on the dash/screen and therefore I would like to integrate them into an audio unit so I have only one vdu.

The first question is, do I go for single DIN fold out or a double DIN? Whilst the single DIN foldout is easier to install I do question the reliability of a motorised foldout screen and also how accessible are the top row of switches with the screen in the out position? Hopefully someone will have some experience of both these aspects.

The second question is, if I decide on the double DIN, can someone recommend a company that can supply and install it, along with a reverse camera system and sat nav.

I normally carry out most of the work myself but I know I wont have the patience to strip out the dash and relocate the switches. I know there are lots of members out there who are much more knowledgable than me when it comes to audio head units, so I would sure like your advice. Defender 90XS SW

I had a very good job done at TMD in east Hothly. They did the whole thing, double din satnav and reversing camera. Drove all the way there from Malta

The double DIN approach would be best I think although its a lot more expensive. You can get a dash face plate http://www.handtec.co.uk/c2-autoleads-land...ApbV8P8HAQ like this that allows you to relocate the switchgear to accommodate the larger unit. Most of them seem to be around the 300 mark.

As for the unit itself their are a couple out there from both Pioneer and Alpine (and others possibly) that will take a rear camera input. If you've got an iPhone I would look for a Carplay compatible device as it allows you to mirror many of the apps on this iPhone on the stereo screen. Something like this from Alpine would be my choice http://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/app-link-station3807/ilx-700 or this from Pioneer http://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-da120

There are many more out there from both of the above that are also double DIN if you use Android or want in-built satnav etc.

One tip though, the stock speakers from LR are rubbish and the size makes replacing them with better bass response speakers almost impossible so go for a separate subwoofer as a minimum even if you choose not to add an amplifier. Both Pioneer and Alpine have a sub that fits nicely on the back of the cubby box.

In my car I replaced the front speakers with a set of Pioneer TS-E1002i and the rear with TS-E1302i and fitted a Pioneer TS-WX120A subwoofer on the back of the cubby box. The head unit is a simple single DIN Pioneer DEH-X8700DAB and the sound is great. Mine was all done on a budget and is by no means the best system but for the money I had to spend it gives me handsfree phone, allows me to listen to Spotify, has DAB and the sound is excellent.

Others on here will no doubt tell you their preference but at the end of the day its down to how much money you've got and what functions/capabilities you need.

Best of luck! -------------------------------

I have a double din in my Urban Truck.

Urban did a top job, I have the Pioneer Car Play unit in mine.

I do not have a reversing camera, but Urban do install them.
