Interesting, when I came in for my renewal and was ringing round, they generally didn't care about " minor" things like that I'd upgraded my mirrors to the Mud ones.

I guess it goes to prove some inconsistency in the car insurance market. So the moral of the story must be to always check with them regarding any modifications however large or small

I went through Adrian Flux in the end, and am actually insured by Equity Red Star (which amusingly my dad is on the underwriting syndicate for as I found out later). When I asked them about off road driving, including on private land the chap on the phone went away and check and that's all covered too apparently. And I recorded the conversation for future reference just in case.
