F1 Melbourne Grand Prix.
Serious practise starts today, there will also be 4 V8 Supercar races during the Event.
Grand Prix seems to be a bit "flat" to date, everybody expects Mercedes 1,2 with Ferrari close behind. Our own Daniel Ricciardo is not very confident at all.
Still, I'll be watching (TV!)
Pickles.

G'Day Simon, only been once myself, so unfortunately I can't be of much help to you.
But, like any event where you watch, and what is the best spot etc, depends upon what you want to see.
Me, I don't think I'd go unless I was in one of those areas where there's food & drink available, under cover etc. The AGP (Melbourne G.P.) website covers lots of stuff.
As far as accomodation is concerned, I'd reckon any of the big Melbourne Hotels would be Ok. However, any suburb would also be good too as long as it's on a direct rail line to Flinders St Station, because there is free public transport from this station down St Kilda Rd to the track & return, so you don't have to worry about parking.
Your first visit to Aussie?
Regards, Pickles.

We went to the Melbourne F1 in 2014 - whilst on our 5 month 'big trip' as it slotted in nicely to our route (and my birthday weekend).

I bought tickets online through the Australia F1 website. They have maps of the track and grandstands / viewing areas on there. Depending in when you purchase your tickets you can get into their gold, silver or bronze programmes which offer a range of extras, such as a pit plane walk, starting grid walk and access to the V8 area, when you buy a full weekend grandstand ticket. We got Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun in the Prost Grandstand (specific seat numbers - choose and book the ones you want). This ticket also includes 'general entry' which means you can either use your booked seat the entire weekend or take a wander around the general viewing areas as you feel.

Hope that helps!

We were camping (Land Rover with Roof Tent) and stayed at the Melbourne Big4 site in the suburbs, with the tram stop to take us into the city a few minutes walk away. There are special trams to take you from the city centre out to Albert Park. The tram was convenient but very very slow! 😊
