is this worth it - Series 3
Hi all

longtime member of FFRR, short time menber of RRS and have dabbled in defenders in the past Thumbs Up

Reason for post ; I have been offered a 1978 series 3 88 2.25 diesel, 1 owner 86000 miles. I havent inspected the car yet but having seen it it looks its age but not in a bad way. Needs a couple of welds of chassis for MOT but bulkead solid.

Anway will be buying it for mid/long term project and guy is asking £1500, is this reasonable

Thanks in advance

Rosco Thumbs Up

I would have a really good look over it, don't take anyone's word on how good the chassis is!

Probably say around £1250 mark if it needs minor work to get it through an MOT.

Series 3s are still plenty full, and still affordable, but they will be on the up....

Good luck

Thanks Ian, I am really out of my depth with the series vehicles and welcome any input, i am used to £1500 being an MOT on the bloody Range Rover. Rolling with laughter

You could try £1100/£1200 to start with, but if it's all there and running, you would struggle to find cheaper.

Depends how desperate they need it gone?

Have a good poke around the rear crossmember, and outriggers.
If it seems solid and the bulkheads good, its a good starting point. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Congrats, I hope it works out well for you. They have a few issues, but all are fixable. I'm well happy with my series 3, having had several series 1s and a 2A in the past, I think the 3 is great, it's classic and practical. In fact my series 3 is now my only vehicle...

Congrats! Thumbs Up

That truly sounds like a bargain! Over here, the prices are skyrocketing even for SIII.... I was looking for one not too long ago and eventually gave up.
