Rock legend Lemmy dies of cancer. A proper rock god, not like these plastic pop stars churned out by x-factor or wannabe 'tough' men, like egg throwing naughty boy Bieber. . I'll be raising a glass. RIP.

Let's be honest, Lemmy was never one to do things by halves. So if he had to have cancer it had to be the most aggressive, hardcore, tough as nails cancer available. Nothing less....Indeed the words couldn't be more true: "Ace Of Spades" If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man, You win some, lose some, all the same to me, The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say, I don't share your greed, the only card I need is The Ace Of Spades Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil, Going with the flow, it's all the game to me, Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you, Double up or quit, double stake or split, The Ace Of Spades You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools, But that's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live for ever, And don't forget the joker! Pushing up the ante, I know you wanna see me, Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again, I see it in your eyes, take one look and die, The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be, The Ace Of Spades Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

He went to our school, Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch Anglesey, we have followed him ever since he came to fame in the early 70's. My daughter now a big fan and went to see him in Warsaw just a few months ago so all in shock at how quickly he passed away, although rumours about his poor health have been circulating for the last few years. Put a lot of living into 70 years, still very sad.

After a Mess Function I happened to find myself in a well-known, after hours establishment near Leicester Square and owned by a gentleman with a famous, blond mullet. Whilst at the bar choosing a suitably Guard's Officer-like drink, (something with a cherry and umbrella in it) I had a tap on my shoulder by a gentleman offering to buy my Mess Jacket, as he wanted to wear it on stage. Sadly I had to turn him down, as it was needed for a duty the next day. Nevertheless we got stuck into some proper drinking and stories. A great evening. On parting I invited him to the Officer's Mess the next day for lunch, which he said he would like to do but depended on his manager. He gave me his card (white card, Motorhead Logo with just 'Lemmy' written on it) and said he would let me know. I thanked him and left, thinking I would hear nothing more. The next morning the Mess Colour Sergeant approached me and said a lunch guest had called to cancel. I asked whom and the CSgt replied 'I do believe it was Mr Lemmy of Motorhead'. How many modern popstars (prima donnas) would even bother getting a minion to call and cancel, let alone do it themselves? As said, true gent. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

I had a 10 minute conversation with Lemmy many moons ago in Cardiff that started out at a urinal in a pub and led out into the street. A nicer guy you'd never meet but one that spoke both the truth and his mind. Thanks for many entertaining a gig Lemmy, rock the heavens my friend.

I've always been a metal head and have seen Motorhead twice. Nowadays I'm mostly into Folk metal - bands like Falkenbach, Ensiferum, Heidevolk, Manegarm etc. but I have never forgotten how Lemmy single handedly started the whole harsh vocal style that so many bands have tried to emulate since.
Despite the soulless commercial environment that has spawned the likes of Coldplay and Westlife Lemmy kept on gigging to an ever appreciating audience. there aren't many +40 yr bands of Motorhead's ilk left. The Quo are one that comes to mind. As the great man said ' if I go as a result of too much women, music or booze its not a bad way to die !' RIP Lemmy |

I saw Motorhead five, maybe six times live. Never met the man, but here are two of my experiences.
The first time I saw Motorhead I had an Escort Mk2 (that long ago). I was driving back out from town and stopped at some traffic lights and I got flagged down by a police car. They said they had stopped me for my music being so loud. I said "IT ISN'T" Officer said "don't shout" "I'M NOT" "You don't need to yell at me. Where have you been? Where are you going?" "JUST COME FROM THE MOTORHEAD GIG" "ah....." The last time was when they played Exeter and the theatre had a balcony. Lemmy refused to play the encore 'Overkill' until the whole of the seated element of the balcony was stood up. "We aren't playing until everyone is stood up. You can't sit through a Motorhead gig. I've got all night, I'm sleeping on the bus tonight, so I don't care what time we finish" he growled. And those of us down the front cheered. Finally my favourite story, which isn't mine. When Motorhead open they often start with the track "Bomber" and they play an air raid warning siren and a two spotlights search the roof and then the guitar comes in. Playing Hamburg and Lemmy leant into the mic and said "Bet that's a sound you hoped you'd never hear again". I will bow out to this Motorheads finale - Turn it up and enjoy the energy, stay with it to the end for the classic Lemmy ending. In HD, this is an awesome video. He was Motorhead, and he played Rock and Roll. https://youtu.be/GlecTBevmzc *edit, if someone can make this an embed video like the one above, can't seem to make it work. thanks New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info |
