Puma 2.4 engine oil leak
Hi Folks,

Today while driving the oil pressure light came on. I turned off the engine immediately, and coasted to a stop. Luckily I had a few litres of oil in the back. I refilled it which took over 3 litres. Oil has come out under pressure in a spray on the forward part of the engine on the left passenger side, just behind the pulleys. The spray of oil was under the bonnet in a small area, so I am hoping for just a burst pipe.

It was too dark to go digging, I will look at it tomorrow, but can anyone point me to any engine oil diagrams, or point me in the right direction.

59 plate defender 90 2.4.

Many thanks

Ok guys,

Sounds like vacuum pump then!

Is it hard to replace? Is there any diagrams online to show what to look at?

Cheers

I have just looked up the vacuum pump, and yes that looks like the source.

With the oil leak, where would the leak be from? Is it the gasket, or from the bearing.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the quick replies

Thanks treebeard

I am guessing that your link www was reference to the lack of workshop manuals!!!

I will pick one up tm and I think I will do a full service while I am getting dirty anyway!

With the fact that this pump sprayed out oil under high pressure, is there anything else that I should be looking at while replacing the pump?

Does the vacuum pump have its own engine oil supply?

I don't quite understand how it works, or even why the engine oil is there under such high pressure.

Many thanks
