Hi all,
For those of you (with endurance!) who made it through my my 'Newbie - Am I mad?' thread, you know that I am now, after much gentle persuasion by forum members, hopefully getting a 110 XS USW in a week or so!! In best forum tradition, I've started my shopping/modification list.. Quick question about the factory speaker setup in the 110XS. Do the front speakers have tweeters in the dash? If so, are there factory crossovers for these and the woofers/midrange? Want to replace the audio setup with something higher quality, but want to make sure I order the right stuff! I guess I need to order 10cm component speakers for the front? In this vein, I presume that the rear speakers are just 10cm co-axial? Cheers! |

i like my music, classical, rock, jazz, all sorts. i like to hear my music cleary and thoughout the sound range.
after investigating a reasonably priced system i left the tweekers in place, replaced all 4 factory speakers with Kenwood 3 way speakers [they are 4" and not much bottom end but very clear, i also fitted a new Kenwood head unit with USB slot and fitted the Alpine powered amp behind the cubby box. now i get very clear sound all the way through the range which suits me fine. Thanks chaps.
I'm also after clear sound rather than boy racer thumping bass! Think I'll be going for one of these as a head unit: http://tinyurl.com/3ybvn6e since with a bluetooth add-on I can link it to my iphone for sound and calls. Swapping the speakers out and probably fitting a small sub somewhere. Luckily, the second item on my shopping list is some sound-proofing! |

With the exception of the sub - the standard system is no different to the one fitted to 300 Series discos, lower spec TD5's Disco's - nothing wrong with it. An audio guy first advised on the discos to change the head unit for a decent one, which i did and had to hand it to him the difference was marked. Im not saying it cant be improved, but, with a sub and headunit it will improve. There are however 2 differencies - 110's longer than a 90 so sound probably is an issue differently for you 110 people and some of the voids arent as great on the speakers. Granted there is no base on the standard set up Mike |
