Trickle Charger recommendations
We use a ctek charger for normal battery charging duties.

However I need to keep various batteries charged this coming winter.

Any recommendations on trickle chargers??

Charging batteries in parallel, normal wisdom is to keep to the same type of battery in same condition.

Would the same apply to keeping them top up on a trickle charge? Logic seems to say yes.

So any recommendations on trickle chargers and advice on trickle charging

You won't find anything better than a Ctek. I would try to avoid charging multiple batteries in parallel since any variations in the batteries could cause problems, and an internal fault in one could, in the absence of protection, discharge or even short the others with undesirable result.

I keep any vehicle I'm not actively using permanently plugged into a Ctek pretty well all the time now.

+1 for the C-tek, they can be left on the battery indefinitely and I've never had a problem with them. One of them lives outside and has survived a winter with no issues.

I bought a Lidl one a few months back, for £15 it's coped very well charging Puma batteries from dead. It can be fitted to the battery long term and automatically reconditions like the C-tek.

The Halfrauds ones are mean to be quite good also.

+1 for ctek chargers. I use the 0.8 xs as maintenance charges for winter storage. Just fit and forget. Never had any issues.

Looks like I will be buying a few more Ctek chargers Thumbs Up

Currently have 2, one is about 3.5 amp, one is a 7 amp one. The 7 amp one at 6 years old is not working at the moment, not had time to check the fuses yet.

It certainly seems to make sense, with any type of vehicle that is not used constantly, to plug them in permanently
to a CTEK. Very impressed with mine and I think it has paid for itself in not having to replace batteries every 3 or 4 years.

I have a CTEK one on my old escort,

I also use an Accumate

but i do have 3 x £10 ALDI ones and in all fairness they all do exactly the same job for the price of one CTEK.

Yes. It keeps the battery charged. That's all I need.

They even have a digital display showing volts and how charged it is etc.

Only thing that lets them down is you can't unplug the crocodile clip cable from the charger like you can with my c tek.

For other cars I normally use an Optimate 6 which I have for the bikes... Has worked fine.
What model CTek do you recommend?

I have a CTEK MXS5.0 (not the Test & Charge) which is fine for 1.2Ah to 110Ah batteries inc lead acid, AGM & gel.

This does the job on 12Ah gel & 16Ah lead acid motorbike batteries as well as looking after the batteries on a D4 (AGM) and 110 Puma (lead acid)

(Individually, that is, not all at the same time!)

The cars are charged via the towing electrics using an adapter bought from Martin of this parish
