Second service complains and 1 question
French style. One month ago I got the appointment for the 24K control at an official Parisian dealer for yesterday. Today I got the car back. Paid : 632 euros, including 302 euro for spare parts and oil and 100 euro/hours for the work. A part for the money, a sum which is however not negligible, I did not understand why:
1) Oil was at 19.5 euro/liter (excluding VAT) when it is at 17 euro/liter (incl VAT) in any gas station and 12 euro/liter (incl VAT) on internet
2) Paid 3 euro for washing liquid
3) 1 bulb was not working before and after the control
4) I forgot to disconnect the Scangauge, but apparently this was not a problem since nothing was connected to the ECU.
A part for these complains, I had a strange experience after the second and forth services (24k and 48k) with my old TD5, the first done at the (same) French dealer and the second in Italy. After a while the drain plug of the fuel filter broke. By chance in both case I was not far from home, so it was not a major issue even if annoying. I was told that this issue is related to vibrations and a thin layer of grass around the plug prevents its rupture. Is this a known problem (also for TDCI) or just related to the incompetence of the dealer(s)?

Fuel filter drain plugs on Td5 fuel filters (don,t know about tdci) are a known weak spot its best to throw them away with the filter and fit a new one each time. For some reason genuine filters don,t come with a new drain plug but after market ones do ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

Thanks Lou. yesterday I was so upset that I misspelled "grease" in "grass" (actually grease is "grasso" in Italian)

On the oil...will your dealer let you take your own?

I almost always (and have for at least the last 10 years) take my own oil to the service and ask the dealer (main dealer or independant) to use it.

I get Mobil1 or the Defender's recommended Castrol from the cash and carry for around £23 for 4 litres...

Sometimes the Defender's recommended Castrol oil is as little as £17 in Halfords (on special offer) and I buy 4 at a time.

No dealer has yet refused (Volvo or Land Rover), and it saves a packet... Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Certain places on the Continent (Germany for example) oil is very expensive as within the cost of purchase is also contained the cost of the disposal of your old oil. So basically it matters not where you buy it from it's just as expensive.

Whilst stationed in Germany the cheapest place to buy was the Naafi for that very reason, then do your own oil change and dispose of your old oil through 'Service' disposal. Not sure about France though? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

mh... I suppose that In France is the same for disposal, but I am sure that they will not accept my own oil. I am already a "borderline" customer among their usual Range and Jaguar clients Embarassed .
One of the problems here is that there are only three official dealers in Paris and this one is the biggest and the better equipped. However it works mainly with Range & Disco and, basically, I do not trust him.
Probably the best could be to do the control by myself, thus saving money and preventing my nerves. But the car is still under warranty and it seems to me more complex than my old Series.

I have had exactly the same experience here in Munich with the main dealer. As soon as I arrived they looked me up and down and if I was scruffy they ignored me and if I was smart they tried to sell me a RR or Evoque. They didn't want to touch the Defender and when (reluctantly) they did, they overcharged and screwed up. I would never trust them again.

Now I drive 20 km further to another smaller (but official) dealer where the car park is littered with Series 1s up to Pumas and the service is brilliant. I need a hire car at both dealers anyway, so it's all good.

I guess you will never trust/be happy with your current dealer so find another if you can... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

There is no shortage of landrover dealers and aprooved LR repairers in the Paris area. From landreover.fr, there are 7 pages of dealers, and within 30ks of the center of Paris there are:

Neubauer Distributeur / Neubauer Service- Land Rover Paris 15 99-101 Boulevard de Grenelle, Paris, Paris, 75015 (dealer and agreed repairer)

Land Rover Buttes Chaumont 102 Avenue Simon Bolivar, Paris, Paris, 75019 (dealer and agreed repairer)

Neubauer Service - Land Rover Montmartre 162, rue Lamarck, Paris, 75018 (agreed repairer)

Arc de Triomphe Autos, 30 Rue De Tilsitt, Paris, Paris, 75017 (dealer)

Porte d'Asnières Service, 5 Avenue de la porte d'Asnières, Paris, Paris, 75017 (agreed repairer)

Safi, 222 avenue aristide briand, RN20, Bagneux, 92220 (agreed repairer - where I bought my 110 from)

V.P.M. 15 Avenue De Madrid, Neuilly Sur Seine, Hauts De Seine, 92200 (dealer and agreed repairer)

Neubauer Service - Land Rover Boulogne, 3 rue Galliéni, Boulogne Billancourt, Hauts de Seine, 9210 (dealer and agreed repairer)

Land Rover Enghien 163 Av. De La Division Leclerc, Enghien Les Bains, Val D Oise, 95880 (dealer and agreed repairer)

Land Rover Chennevieres 102 Route De La Libération (Rn 4), Chennevieres Sur Marne, Val De Marne, 94430 (dealer and agreed repairer)

SA Bidaud 59 Avenue François Mitterand RN7, Athis Mons, 91200 (agreed repairer)

Land Rover Saint Germain, Jaguar Land Rover Center, 25 bis route de Saint Germain, Le Port Marly, Yvelines, 78560 (dealer and agreed repairer)

VPA, ZA de Courtaboeuf, 8, avenue des Andes, Les Ulis, 91940 (dealer and agreed repairer)

PGM Coignières, 1 rue jacquard, Coignières, 78310 (agreed repairer)

We have always used the "réparateur agréés" near where we live (PACCI automobiles in Yutz) rather than the local dealers, as they are much better, and come with full LR backing.

Thanks you Jon for the info. Basically there are three agreed repairer inside Paris (one big, two small), which I all visited before buying my last Landy two years ago. They looks all the same Rolling Eyes . I do not know the others in the Paris neighboring, but this could be a good reason for a “pleasure” visit before next control.

Any forum members up to date with 2016 UK main dealer service costs for the 2 year/24k service.

I understand some dealers may have been reviewing their current (2015) pricing structure and as Defender production is ceasing they may be moving their charges upwards.
