My 1984 90's had to turnover a little longer then you do. And also I needed to glow at least 30 seconds when the engine was cold. But they allways started even after year standing still. So I think or you have to try longer and maybe put an additional battery next to it.
These engines normally allways start as long as they get diesel. Do you smell diesel from your exhaust? Is your soloniod opening? Was it parked there when it was running? Otherwise you might have to check the timing. Mine didn't have that beep. Here how mine started. Ok I had started it a short while before so it wasn't completely cold. But as you see I take time to glow. http://youtu.be/1ziIVvyoeFE Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Have you tried cracking two injectors off to see if fuel is getting through? 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

If the battery and starter are good then I reckon that engine is turning over way too slowly. Are you sure it isn't a 24v vehicle still and you have only got 1 12v battery wired in?

Thank your for your fast answers!
The 12v battery is good, almost new and it is a 12v defender, I checked to be sure. And I also tried with another battery plugged in and it does not change anything I can hear the solenoid clicking and for the glow plugs, I ordered new ones to be sure. What is strange is that It was working perfectly when I bought it and by the time I came home the landy would not start any more I'm going to crack the the two injectors off to be sure the fuel is coming Once again, I'm very grateful for your help |

Have you checked the small filter thats sits on the end of the pickup pipe inside the tank?
If it is clogged with gunk from an old tank it can allow diesel through but not at a sufficient volume to run the engine. An easy check is to supply fuel straight to the pump from a can Brads David |

I agree that it still sounds slow to turn over and even on the second attempt it has slowed noticeably. Even if those components are good you may have a bad earth bond from the battery to the chassis. I have had exactly the same problem with my N/A 2.5. Would also suggest 45 seconds on the heater plugs particularly when the engines are a bit tired, supposing of course they are all operating correctly. I also found on mine that if I re-heated after the first attempt it was much more successful because there was already diesel in the combustion chambers to vaporise. Might just have been my imagination but it seemed to correlate. Good luck and keep us posted! |

Thanks to all!
After replacing the glow plugs, cleaning all the earth points and tie them up correctly, I achieved to make it run by simply waiting longer for the glowing. I did 45sec of glowing then re glowing for a few seconds and then no problem to start it! Once again, thank you all for your help |
