What complete rot! Nuff said, if anyone wishes clarification 'pm' me and I can pass you on to an individual at Autologic direct who can clarify further! From 'frequently asked questions' - Are there any insurance implications? Yes. Most insurance companies require you to notify them of any modifications to your vehicle. This includes modifications such as stainless steel exhausts or different alloy wheels. Some insurance companies will add a premium to your policy, others will not. Autologic Performance Tunes are invisible and it is impossible to detect that the engine tune data has been modified. Maybe you should consider taking up another profession as a fictional writer... Fictional I have seen for myself on the Land Rover dealers puter showing that lots of parameters read higher than expected but within range. This is an indication that the vehicle is tuned, the second obvious one is when the car is driven.
We had a 90 puma with a re-map, the car developed an injector fault so it went to the dealers. The dealer could not trace the issue so Land Rover requested files from the car to be sent to them. An hour later Land Rover called to say that the car had a re-map and that all warranty claims were rejected. The dealer fought our corner and said that the issue was nothing to do with the re-map, reluctantly Land Rover agreed and replaced the parts under warranty. However they stated that the car was now flagged as not warranted so every claim from then on would be investigated. Basically anything to do with engine, clutch drive train would not be covered. 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Misadvertising perhaps but someone's definately leading their customers up the proverbial garden path, or telling porkies! Why claim it is impossible to tell if it isn't? On and off I've had my remap on for over two years (the vehicle is 2 years 6 months old) and apart from an issue when they overwrote the map and a subsequent three month period of incompatability I have had absolutely no issues with any warranty work at all! Then again my engine has been perfect all the while....If the engine behaves one would assume that Land Rover won't go looking for enhanced figures if there isn't any issues.
"Pays your money takes your chance" as the age old addage goes. Paid mine and would pay it again if I was in the same situation with a vehicle I had purchased and was only 5 months old! Next to a woodburner my remap was one of the best purchases I have made! Have you got any remap out of interest? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! No I dont have a re-map on any of my vehicles. My comments regarding the "they can see if its tuned is only that, they can see that settings are higher not actual changes to the actual programing, well as far as I am aware. I have not been told this by a tuning company. I witnessed this first hand when my red D3 had a re-map on it and it went into the dealers. Dont want to name names but this was way before the tuning boxes were available. I'm sure you can apply some logic and automatically work out who's it was I'm not saying dont get a re-map or get a re-map with an on/off box. I am saying that you dont have to be a puter wizz to work out a car is re-mapped. If you do have an issue and LandRover find out your car is re-mapped they will void your warranty on components that could be effected by the re-map. 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Ive missed a bit here and certainly only skim read the posts above.
Im not talking about the dealers, they are not land rover - but i know that if LR get the car they can tell its been remapped through various methods i have seen it done not at a dealer - at the R&D facility with the car...Pete even admits this on this very forum i am told there are several ways to tell...some simple and some not. Im also not saying dealers dont do remaps to cars, or Pete's box doesnt stop it from being detected (if used correctly - i dont know either way). Further, im also not saying that you might not have faults on the car, with a remap on and not have problems with a dealer/land rover when you take it in. Certain things will trigger checks, certain scenarios will trigger suspicions by land rover - from which there are certain ways they can tell the car has been remapped. Now lets face it, what company would not close the door to what could be potentially very costly for false claims. But Land Rover WILL cancel the warranty, they wrote to the dealers to remind them of that fact. Remember, however, its still your car - you can do what you like, its not banned or illegal and they only remove the warranty on the drive train as Andrews points out. Mike |
