For those of you who are mildly curious as to what is actually inside the catalytic converter here's a couple of pictures. When you see one in the flesh it's no wonder that taking out the things allow the turbo to spool up so much quicker.
Click image to enlarge In the 'silencer box' there are two of these and the pipe from the manifold enters the box and all the gasses have to pass through the honeycomb. Click image to enlarge I find it amazing that by having such a restriction in the exhaust can be of any use, no wonder there is the saying "Drive it like you stole it" that applied to Td5's when driving styles were discussed. |
