Change into 2nd
Having moaned about my Defender 2.4Tdci gearchange into 2nd I have been giving it some more thought and been doing a bit of experimenting.

It seems that revving to nearly 3k eases the shift into 2nd. So i'm thinking the issue with the gearchange is a mismatch of gearbox and engine speeds and potentially weak synchros.

I have heard people talk about their Defenders having an annoying rev hanging issue, mine doesn't seem to do this, however if I keep the revs up by pressing the throttle it does help it slip into 2nd.

It just seems counter productive revving hard in 1st unless towing as 1st is so low geared!

So after thinking about this, I'd quite like a defender that hangs its revs.....

A fluid change makes a good difference, especially when cold.

Yes, I have to rev the same amount to get a smooth change into 2nd, but that's also to give me enough time/momentum for a slow gear change.

Planning an oil change soon as it's got noticeably worse in the recent cold mornings.
