Overall not too difficult to do the swap. More time consuming and fiddly. I completely wrenched my back pulling the transfer case off the workbench on Friday but was able to continue
A few things to note I hate defender parking brake pad retainer springs (just saw a special tool that may save me) I also hate propshaft bolts. (Have a tool on order). Not hard to do up. Just massively fidgety for 16 bolts. Each one takes a few min. That's an hour just to get the props back on !!! All oiled up and ready to go about $100 later in oil The reward is finally driving it again. Gearing is really good. No leaks. No strange noises. Good to be back on the road. Next winter I will rebuild the old one and see what the issue is Time to get the soundproofing back in, cubby box (2 years later), then look after some other pits and pieces Cheers Tim Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |

The best tool I have found for these is a Snap On 9/16" AF Flex Socket. |
