What's the Difference?
I have seen this but I don’t understand the difference in codes, so if someone could help that would be great?

265/75QR16 BFG MUD TERRAIN T/A KM2 119Q

265/75QR16 BFG MUD TERRAIN T/A KM2 123Q

Is one a harder compound?

Also been quoted £134 per Tyre fitted, bal, valves etc, take it thats a good price?

Cheers

Stu

Different load ratings

119 = 2998 lbs
123 = 3417 lbs

ok so if i went for the high load rate, but dont need it would they last a little longer?

just asking as i have the OE GYMTR tyres at the mo and have done 26K and still have 10mm tred left so wanting to kake sure the KM2 would do 30K plus if looked after?

Knowledge! Thumbs Up

But why is not a load rating of 2998 lbs expressed as '298' and the higher rating of 3417 lbs then 341?!!

Not so simple Yolo Razz

Load rating tables I looked at were in kilograms! So you would need two load rating figures one in lbs and one in kg.

To be fair in kg it is easier to convert to tonnes, not so easy in lbs to tons.

For a higher load rating between same size tyres from the same manufacturer I would assume different wall construction rather then different rubber compound.

So the lighter duty one will be more comfortable but more prone to sidewall damage?

I don't think BFG make the tyres in both load ratings, pretty sure the lower rating is old stock or just sellers using old tech info for current tyres. The BFG range appears to have all been re-rated after the EU labelling drama earlier in the year that led to stock shortages in some sizes while the factory rejigged the molds.

I'm fairly certain that if you buy from a supplier with reasonably high stock turnover you will get the higher rated tyres even if they are advertising the lower rating. The only way to be sure is to ring the supplier and ask them to physically check what is stamped on the tyre wall.

I am going through the same dilemma because the 255/85 size has also jumped up in load rating and this isn't necessarily a good thing if the construction has been beefed up. On the other hand, it may be purely a paper exercise and the tyres are identical to the lower rating versions. I would personally prefer the lower rating for ride and off-road flexibility.

My new Continentals AT's have also now a higher load rating number than the previous tyres with a lower 'number'. But I notice absolutely no difference in ride quality and comfort (this is on my Rolls of course!) Laughing YOLO... You Only Live Once...
