Just to make you aware, I have received a selection of spam emails claiming to be from "Frogs Island 4x4 / Terrafirma" from the address "sales@frogsisland4x4.com". These emails have been sent to addresses harvested from web pages (some of them are spam honey pots and are used to auto blacklist domains).
I thought at first this was a simple, though very annoying, spam email but actually it's quite possibly a scam as frogs island 4x4 don't exist anymore and the domain in the email is a link harvesting page. The spam emails are originating from a US based spam email service in an attempt to avoid UK and EU regulations. Not sure who is behind it but, at best, it's a dodgy 4x4 business and at worst they could be trying to get credit card details from people taken in by the ads. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

What makes you say they don't exist anymore ?
I bought a bumper off them last month... They sell a lot of their stuff through ebay now. |

It's all a bit strange TBH, my first thought was it was just spam but there is so much that doesn't make sense that I started wondering if there was more to it.
Frogs Island 4x4 Ltd was dissolved in 2009 according to companies house. The domain that the email uses (frogsisland4x4.com) no longer has a web site but the email is being used to send out spam emails which request that you "order" by sending them an email. It may be that Frogs Island 4x4 is being used as a trading name for another company but there are no (contrary to UK law) indications of which company you are actually buying from. (No company number in the email and obviously none on the web site as it doesn't exist). Frogs Island 4x4 Workshops LLC IS still registered and active but don't seem to have any ties to the domain name being used and don't have a web site that I can find. Any company that sends out spam emails is already in the "dodgy business practices" camp but add that to asking you to order by email and not having a web presence just smells of a scam to me which is why I posted it here rather than just treating it as "normal" spam which gets reported via the abuse mechanism. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I think that a new company was formed with the same name as the old, and possibly some or all of the staff.
The current Frogs Island 4x4 is not the same one that existed ten years ago. |

I have bought from them in the last week and everything has been delivered. Seems to me that Frogs/Terrafirma/Allmakes may be just one co.?

The email address they sent mine to is one that's not used by anyone but is visible on a web site as a contact address, that's how I know it's spam, there's no way it's ever been "opted in" either by me buying something from a related company or contacting them from that address. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I thought Frogs Island 4x4 were bought out by Terrafirma about 4 years ago and become Terrafirma main retail outlet.
Not 100% certain. A quick look at http://www.frogsisland4x4.com/ brings up
Now I have no idea what is happening but has someone with a dodgy background managed to clone the frog island email address for less then 100% legal means. Maybe someone should contact Frogs Island by phone to try and ascertain what is happening?? Brendan |

There is a Terrafirma showroom there as well.
Now you mention in I seem to recall the Terrafirma guy saying that the guys in the workshop had got together bought that side of the business. Which makes sense as if you wanted a service and some parts fitted you have to speak to about three different people down there to get prices. One person for price of part, another for price of fitting/labour and so on. If I finish at a decent time I'll pop in on my way home tomorrow and let them know Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful! |

Update - a little later than promised...like nearly 4 months.
I popped into FrogIsland twice this week. It's still open though both days there was only 2-3 guys there. Didn't look as busy as it used to be. A couple of nice looking Defenders, a Disco 3, a series and some land cruisers. Previously had bad customer service from them, but on this/these occasions the chap couldn't help enough. Even took 10 mins away from the Disco 3 he was working on to 'chew the fat'. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful! |
