My 2000 110 has just a Romerdrive., (no remap or changes to the intercooler or turbo) Goes great on the flat, but once off the flats on an uphill it needs the lower gears (4th and 5th) to keep it in the 120km/h range.

I'd recommend taking it to one of the many favoured tuners to have it all checked, someone who knows what the ECU values mean and not just the error codes.
My TD5 has been tuned for so long I can't remember what it was like on the motorway before but I definitely don't need to use anything below 5th from about 40mph to another number much higher. Assuming it is mechanically sound the common MAF issue can cause performance degradation, increasing the pressure before the actuator operates won't make much difference as you can't really go anywhere before you start to trip on over pressure. Try in unplugging the MAF, clean the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold and check your red ECU plug under the drivers seat for oil. www.td5.org |

It's more maintaining speed than absolute top speed I'm concerned with! Just not sure if it's down on power. There is oil in the ECU plug, doesn't feel like it's misfiring but I'll blast it out with contact cleaner and see if it goes away.
MAF is brand new but worth checking, will also clean up the map sensor. What are the options on diagnostics? I have a Bluetooth obdii adapter and torque app, which works great on other cars but I can't get anything out the defender! |

Mine's standard and it sat on the M40 at around 80-85 quite happily.
Bloody loud though. 2002MY Defender 90 H/T |

Very limited, the only diagnostics you can get will cost £300 give or take. They have obd2 ports but nothing is compatible apart from Hawkeye,Nanocom or what I have, Lynx. Whats acceleration like on the flat, you should easily notice the difference when the turbo kicks in if you floor it in 3rd/4th? Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

If there's oil in the ecu then that's probably your problem. Ray

You can definitely feel the turbo come in, and it does pick up, but I'm not sure if it's as much as it should!
I thought that the oil in the ECU would cause a misfire, but I'll sort that and see how we go. |

140km/h top speed. on a def90 it starts to feel scary. (tried this when i has a 1.410 box.)
it will cruise at 120km/h at 2400rpm with 1.222 t-box, which doesn't strain the engine at all. engine temp at 82 deg while ext temp is 32 deg. If you really want to keep the speed then a 1.222 t-box is a good choice. some say you lose power, but only when moving off, if you don't tow, you never really notice it. using the standard turbo and a uprated cooler will give you enough power on a 1.222 box to tow. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island. |
