I hope it lives up to your expections (and mine) The brief was fast full stop not quick ,not it shifts for a land rover not nippy for a old 90 not quick for what it is but real world fast as f@@k. This will not be a fast build but I hope to be done this year. I want it to be the ultimate sleeper so I will be spending no time or cash on the bodywork. My new 18 inch wheels have been rubed down with 60 grit paper and painted with a rough brush of NATO green paint (bloke from silverline went white when I told him what I wanted to do with my new wheels) and left outside to age. £1200 worth of AP raceing calipers getting the same treatment should look like a Censored heap when done. This may seam like an add for Rakeway but apart form giving them my bank details I have no connection with them and I know there are cheeper out there but I like the matter of fact information you get from Neil.

Cheers Rob

I drove to the job site and then realized I had left all my tools at work so I will put the axle together tomorrow

Did you detail what your plans for the full build of this beast are?
If you did, I've forgotten!!,.....so, are you leaving the LS3 standard, what transmission are you using, and what will you be doing to the suspension,..lowering, shocks etc?
Of course, with a lovely engine like this, ya'll wanna hear it working, so what are you doing with the exhaust,....twin pipes,...where will they exit?
All good stuff, because, "there is no replacement for displacement", Pickles.

I'm seriously worried about the above photos showing shiny components lying in what resembles a pig sty strewn with all sorts of organic detritus.

Not exactly a text book clean room for the precision assembly of components that have been produced to exacting quality standards.

However as my ex-M.o.D, colleagues have experience of repairing Defenders in swamps and sand blown desert environments - each to their own - it can be done!

Well no it does not look very good but no assembley has taken place in the pig sty. I collected the gearbox from Rakeway in a put together state with transfer box fitted so no chance of getting muck inside it. I slid it out of the back of my 90 onto the pallet in the trailer just to make it easier to pick up with the fork lift. It will soon be spending the rest of its life under a Land Rover so I dont think a bit of clean straw will bother it much.

The rakeway kit is second to none... When I got my brakes they told me what your plans were think your gearbox was in build while I was there

Hi all just a quick update
I had been a bit disappointed with my lack of progress on this project. I wanted to get it done but other things like work were getting in the way. After a lot of soul searching I decided my only option was to let my employer go so in a few weeks I will have all the time I need to do this project and this new project.

On the V8 I have fitted the engine and gearbox and made a start on the exhaust system.

In answer to Pickles
"are you leaving the LS3 standard" Yes I got the 525 BHP engine
"what transmission are you using" It is a six speed Tremec box rated at 750 BHP and 750 lb/ft (I think)
"what will you be doing to the suspension,..lowering, shocks etc? " I do not know yet but Neil at Rakeway advised V8 Disco springs which will give a nice non choppy ride and about one inch lowering B6 shocks and maybe some uprated anti roll bars.
"what are you doing with the exhaust" Do not know yet but will be exiting in the normal place. At 75 MPH it will be doing about 2000 RPM so at up to 2500 RPM I want it to be as quiet as possible but above that I am not to bothered. At tick over (at traffic lights for example) I want it as near silent as possible so the lad in the loud Astra has no clue as to what is going to happen. The pace should hopefully pick up in a few weeks.

Cheers Rob
