Last night I watched a new factual film called MERU it is about three mountain climbers who attempt to climb Mount Meru, one of the most coveted prizes in the high stakes game of Himalayan big wall climbing. The film has breath taking scenery and features the real climbers.
To say these three climbers are both brave, mad and I mean mad is an understatement. I will not give much away as that would spoil the film but when I say that one of the climbers because of the altitude suffers a stroke and loses the power of speech but still carries on to the summit shows what true mountain climbers are about. Some of the climbing moves including climbing in almost pitch darkness on overhanging ice walls with an altitude of 18000 feet puts you on the edge of your seat just watching them. If you get a chance to watch this film do so, no special effects, no multi million pound actors, just three guys with shear guts and a determination to get to the top of a mountain no one has done before. IMBD gave it a 7.9 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2545428/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

I saw the film at a Documentary festival organised by MMU, however I believe the film will be released on DVD on November 17th.
If you are into climbing films and I have seen quite a few this is one of the best I have seen, the climber and cinematographer Jimmy Chin does a wonderful job. The film is full of surprises, some of which you have to doubt the climbers sanity.
