Came across this whilst looking at steering guard options:
http://www.duckworthparts.co.uk/landrover/info_bfdef0003.html Looks very nicely finished. Anyone tried one? I also like the standard LR offering but it's quite pricey - not that the Belly Fender is cheap! |

I like that, I think it looks fab !
I note that the red eyelets are for lashing down rather than recovery though |

Never heard of it before your post. Does look good on the face of it. Is it lacquered? Even the lacquer on my OEM one degraded and resulted in me having it powder coated.
Steering guards all do exactly the same and there is a bucket load of threads with pictures. As mentioned I have a third-hand OEM one that I powder-coated black I bought off the forum. I do not off-road or green-lane so it is purely for looks and could potentially have been made out of plastic for my purposes. It depends on your intended usage of the truck and whether you want functionality over form? Happy hunting! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Am not surprised that K9F has not heard of Belly Fender as they are a newly incorporated company.
There are many steering guards in the market place starting around the £100 mark going upwards. Personally I would be reluctant to have lash down eyes in contrasting colours. That is typically done with recovery points and sooner or later the temptation might be to use the lash down eyes for recovery. Yes the Belly Fender does look good but if the price does look expensive m33ufo why not buy a cheaper one and get it painted to your own design or powder coated in contrasting colours? Good quality well made products do tend to cost more to manufacture then cheap roughly made products. The Belly Fender is wider then most other steering guards hence less can be cut out of a sheet of metal also pushing price up. Brendan |

Good point re the lash down eyes.
Have to say the Belly Fender item is probably the nicest I've seen - with the exception of not having recovery points. Dan at Duckworths has offered £220 + vat (£264), so I'll go for it. |

Have to say I like the look of the Belly Fender..
But Im with Brendan...not keen on the idea of the red tie downs?? Would ineveitably be mistaken as a towing/recovery point. Maybe would have been best maufactured without?..or at the very least painted Gloss Black? Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... I am not convinced that the the red doobries are just tie-downs and not recovery points. They appear to me to be securely attached to the fairly hefty brackets inboard of the frames that hold the plate in place, and look sturdy.
I notice elsewhere on Duckworth's site it states "The mounting brackets are 5mm mild steel with integrated 16mm diameter lashing hoops", but 16mm dia on a 5mm plate is monstrous overkill for a "lashing point". Anyone have any info from the manufacturer? |

Here you go.
http://www.lro.com/land-rover-products-par...ing-guard/ I quote: "The lashing hoops aren't designed for heavy recovery, but will accept a pull with a 10° cone in line with the chassis." |

Exactly what I thought. Happy paying marginally more for a well considered / well made product.
I was tempted initially by a black Urban Truck guard: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Urban-Truck-Land...2ca0257918 But then read a post about one rusting quite badly on this forum. |
