Are JLR UK, the home country, organizing an official Defender farewell event? We now know that the JLR importers of several European countries have done/are doing such a big bang celebration event, the Swiss did it in July, the French will do it in November, Germany will do it in spring 2016.
What about the UK? Eric You never actually own a Defender. Hi all
Thank you for your posts. I note your comments and can advise that no official announcement has been made regarding a farewell celebration event for the current Defender. However, the 2,000,000th Defender is due to be sold at public auction, further information on this can be found on the Land Rover Newsroom, the link for which can be found below. http://newsroom.jaguarlandrover.com/en-in/...mp;locus=1 Regards Ryan |

I'll beat you, I bid a cool billion dollars.
And if that is not good enough, I throw in another million Scottish pounds. Ok, let's talk the real stuff, Uncle Sam dollars. Trillion doing the trick? Still too low a bid to win the auction? Ok, then here my last weapon as a bonus, a chocolate bar. You never actually own a Defender. Building the 2 Millionth Defender with a few 'interesting' individuals is a nice idea...
It's a good thing that we all have one already as the auction will obviously attract a high sale price, probably destine for a private collection. Land Rover sponsoring Ben Ainslie America’s Cup Bid... HRH Prince Harry’s Invictus Games... even the 2015 Rugby World Cup... Back to the original post 'question'... It looks very odd currently that Land Rover UK haven't matched (or attempted to top) some of the 'overseas' Defender Celebrations, Events that 'tap into' the Defender following, I just don't get it... I agree Skip, doesn't make sense.
Even less so when you invited LR to come along to the Red Wharf Bay Tribute event and they declined because they had another event planned...! What a poor show for the vehicle that spawned the entire Land Rover company . Cheers Simon |

Is it me or is the UK home market being treated as the poor relation?
No official UK farewell event for the defender where there would be huge interest in one. No options allowed on any of the UK market heritage limited editions and only a basic spec compared to overseas markets. And we seem to pay more for less than our antipodean friends do for their defender's.... 2015 Defender 90XS HT |

Is it because they did not want to cease production freely?

So how about a Defender2.Net Farewell to Defender Production coupled with a celebration for those that already own one. It is clear that this site is going to keep going years after production has ceased so I guess it would be the official start of something that could then be celebrated annually.
Just a thought! Any farther South and I'll need to trade the Defender in for a Landing Craft |
