Rubbish windscreen washer...WHY??/
Why has the LR windscreen washer always been so pathetic?

My Series 3, my TD5 and now the Puma are the same, it barely squirts a third of the way up the screen, surely there must be a reason other than a rubbish pump?

Is there a modification I can do to improve it? A fan spray would be ideal. 2016 D4 HSE

Have to say I haven't had an issue with mine on the current 90.

However on my old late 80s 90 i did. was the same as yours, just a pathetic dribble rather than a nice jet.

I replaced the pump and it made no difference.
In the end i flushed out the washer bottle, plastic hose and nozzles as the bottle was full of slimy gunk as was the pipework.
Caused by me using water butt water to fill the washer bottle rather than tap water I think.

You do know that a Defender is not up to Range Rover levels of equipment?

If you want a fan-type spray, work out how to fit one Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

The washers in our MY15 Puma beat those in my old IIA, and at least they are no longer in the "Optional Equipment" catalogue! That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent!

Mine is like a jet wash......Check you have not got a kink in the like or that one of the connectors has not got something stuck in it. Sometimes the moulding on one of the connectors is miss-formed.
To prove a point when I was aligning the nozzles the jet sprayed right over the roof and landed about a metre behind the back door. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Still no real improvement.

This is just another classic case of Land Rover fitting low quality rubbish parts to the Defender, whereas they will fit decent kit to their other models.

Can you imagine Evoque, RR, RRS, DS owners putting up with the feeble dribble that won't even reach the centre of the screen in front of the driver's vision? That distance must be less than 12 inches. It's pathetic.

And Martin, I am doing this whilst static, not driving, if I am driving the jet is so feeble it gets blown away and hardly any goes on the screen! 2016 D4 HSE

Something has to be wrong! Try taking the pump off the bottle and place a length of plastic tubing to the outlet, submerge the feed in water, attach a 12V feed and see what power the pump has, place your finger over the outlet to feel the pressure build up. If the pump is fine you have either got a kink an obstruction or a leak somewhere. If the pump has little power swap it either for the rear wash pump or buy new.

As I said my windscreen washer pressure is like a jet wash. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I agree, something is wrong. Blocked pipe or nozzles, failing pump, low voltage at pump.

You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about how useless the Defender is at the moment?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Mine was a feeble dribble so I replaced the none return valves which made no difference, so after a few months of putting up with it I took the dash apart and found a kink in the tube which was straightened out and now it's a good strong jet Thumbs Up Ray

I had trouble with a weak washer to, ended up doing this mod: http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/wipers/
One of the best mods I've done to the vehicle, you get water exactly where you need it without much waste. Only Trouble is that it doesn't look quite as neat, but with a little thought it can be made to look very respectable.
There's a firm selling a kit for this with wipers that already have the jets fitted to them, which look neater again.
I would highly recommend this mod Thumbs Up

No bother with mine in 7 years apart from the nozzle dropping off when cleaning. Dab of Sikaflex and all was well again. Thumbs Up

You do indeed. With this and the fob range. All are quick fixes with the information readily available. Use the search function instead of the 'spleen venting' one!
