I have just removed the heat shield on the turbo to check the bolt tightness.I would like to leave it off.Can I?HANDS WILL BE KEPT AWAY WHEN ENGINE IS HOT,I don't know if it protects the surrounding area from heat.

Its there for a reason. Can I ask why you want to leave it off

It rattles now and again and I have to manipulate it's shape to stop it.I'm also going to remove the cat soon so the lower bolt holes will bo lost.So my thingking is to leave it off from now. Puma 110 SW 90 V8 SOFT TOP |

I would put it back on.
Not only are other items protected from the heat but I recall reading an article where it was explained that the Turbo unit needs to be kept warm as cooling off too quickly and then heating up again is not desired. Sounded reasonable... The rattling thing is annoying but maybe you can find another solution for that, instead of removing the shield completely (e.g. stiffing the heat shield with a peace of metal... haven't found the solution either.. ) The goons are trying to bring me down!
