Hi, so this is my first modification and starting with what I hope is a very simple one. Just wondered if any one had any tips for fitting the FCX padded cubby lid? Just want to make sure I get it all square and lined up. Thanks.
I must say the FCX lid is a work of art, beautifully made and excellent service, ordered Thursday and arrived Friday! Thanks to Matt and Mitch. Last edited by JOW240725 on 18th Oct 2015 7:05am. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi mate!
I fitted mine last week. Easy job. I did it like this... 1: Carefully prise open the interior cubby box liner so you can then firmly pull the opening strap out... it is stapled on but comes off quite easily. 2: Unscrew the 3 hinge screws on the cubby box to release the old lid. Take to work bench. 3: Remove the 'latch clip' from the under side of the old lid. 3: The FCX cubby box lid is made so well that the lid under lining size and shape exactly matched the lid underliner of the old lid. So out came the tape measure and I measured the precise location of the 'latch clip' holes. 4: Mark these distances on the new lid. Out came the 2mm drill and holes drilled. 5: Screw the 'latch clip' into position. 6: Gross error check, I then took the lid and placed it in position on the cubby box. The latch lined up perfectly! 7: Remove the hinge from the old lid. Carefully measure and refasten the hinge to the new lid. 8: Refasten the new lid complete with the hinge to the existing holes in the cubby box. 9: I then fastened the new 'strap' to the cubby box side using a black self tapper with black washer as I did not have a stapler. 10: Close and admire your handiwork! The whole job took me about 20 minutes... using the usual 'measure thrice drill once' philosophy! Good luck, Pete. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Many thanks Pete, that's ideal, just what i was after. Didn't get a chance to fit yet so will get it done next weekend.
I was going to suggest to FCX that they mark guide holes on the back as a template (as IKEA), but as Ken says i guess every cubby box is probably slightly different!! I guess you mean photo's Martin? If so I'll try to take some as I go, then depending how it goes I'll decide if i dare post them or not! Thanks all. James Last edited by JOW240725 on 20th Oct 2015 5:45am. Edited 1 time in total |

Wow Pete, looks great!! Kinda wish I'd had the same idea of colour matching those items, looks really good! Also like the gear stick colour rings, harking back to the Heritage.

Great idea
We've produced probably a dozen different designs of lid over the last year and sent them all over the world, if anyone wants something a little unusual drop us an email and we'll do our best to accommodate or you can choose from one of six 'standard' designs and order online now |
